Surefire ways to wake yourself up?

Ok, so today I let down my SO. I promised to her that I would get up at around 9:30-10pm her time, and none of 3 alarm clocks woke me up (or if they did I must've shut them up and went back to sleep). Now she's still asleep and wont be pissed at me or anything, but I hate the feeling that ive let her down. We both really look forward to these calls, and since we weren't able to talk a ton yesterday, we both said that we'd make the call extra long. Of course this didn't happen and it's going to be a rough next 7 hours, because I just wanna apologise and talk to her. I said we'll do something she's hinted at a few times tonight, hopefully it'll make up for not waking up last night. Feels worse since her messages show she waited a while for me, and didnt go to sleep long before I woke up.

Anyways, I dont want this happening again. I guess routine and alarm clocks are the best way to wake up on time. Anyone got any other ideas?

Haha i know that feeling i had the same feeling last night when he texted me and i didnt hear my phone. TimeZone's..

I dont know how your current situation is. If you work or anything. But maybe it would help if you go to bed early so you will be less tired. Or take a nap in the afternoon.
Is there any way to turn up the sound of your alarm clocks? Also usually when i have one specific alarm sound it wont wake me up anymore after some time, so i usually change it into something else. What might work is to put one of your alarm clocks a bit far away from you so that you have to get it up to turn it off.

That's all i can think of right now i hope it helps

haha, some of those are ridiculous. Im gunna look into that carpet alarm clock.

I guess setting staggered alarms on my iPod might work too. That way if the first one doesn't wake me, the 3rd/4th/95th alarm 15 minutes later will.

I currently dont work, but am looking. I was already kinda tried as I had been lacking a bit of sleep the past two days. Basically I have 3 alarms, 2 normal ones right by my bed, and my iPod which is out of reach. I cannot remember any of them going off, and my iPod one is on snooze, so I would've HAD to stop it at some point. I must've just gone back to sleep unknowingly .

Thats a good call on using a different alarm sound. I'll try that. Thanks

I've had the same problem with putting the clocks on snooze and then going right back to sleep because I couldn't think clearly. What I did was installing an app where I can set the alarm to be able to be put on snooze but only after solving some mathematical problem or a puzzle. That usually rouses my brain enough and I can get up. Maybe that would help you, too?

I definitely think it would, presuming it woke me up (I literally cannot remember waking up at all, but I must've). If you could direct me to this app, that'd be something i'd like to give a go (:

I'm not sure what phone you're using since you only mentioned iPod, but the one I'm using and greatly rely on is called Alarm Droid. It works on Android systems.

My phone even wakes me up when it's on vibrate (usually happens if I have my earphones plugged in to fall asleep on Skype with my SO and they fall out of my ears so I can't hear it). I have an internal body clock that I can set alarms for but if I don't have alarms I can sleep like the dead (not even fake grenades wake me up - ex military here lol). I'm sure your SO will forgive you.

Oh she wont be pissed at me, like me she'll be sad we didn't get to talk. I just feel awful promising her id be up even earlier than usually so we could have a longer call, and ive missed it, which is even worse since its my Dad's birthday tomorrow and im going on holiday the week after, so time to talk is already scarce. I know when we talk today it'll seem a small thing I guess, but I dont like doing anything that doesnt make her happy. I think ill set up as many alarms as possible and stagger them to set off every 10 minutes, should work . Wish I had your body clock!

It's taken many years of honing. It's more because I can't wear a watch. My body seems to interact with batteries and make them run out super fast (watches get slower and slower and slower). Oh well, that's what phones are for.

I think you have inadvertently given me another idea... she occasionally rings my phone if im late getting up, but I always have it on vibrate. Putting it on loud (while waking everyone else up) and saying she can ring me if im being a lazy so-and-so would work I guess.

Drink lots of water and don't pee before bed. You'll be up in a couple hours!

I wish that helped for me. I drink tea at night and it still doesn't get me up

Englishman I think you're over thinking this. Sleep is important for you and if your body didn't want to wake up, it was probably for a good reason
Next time let her ring you and have your phone on super loud that should do the job.
