its a lovely idea. the SO and i have also talked about marriage a little, and in *exactly* the same position, money wise. he probably wont propose for a while, unless i give him some money to buy me a ring... haha (and im not going to do that because thats not romantic n im too young right now)

he bought us both a silver-coloured ring though. i think its titanium? its one that is really durable (like extremely!) and doesnt rust. he put "J and M <3<3" on the inside.

it only cost 60 pounds altogether, which was in the budget

its really romantic, and she will love it

Ah thanks. I bought it today, its a white gold cross over eternity ring. It was all i could afford but to be honest, wanting to stay away from rings that look like engagement rings, this was the only one i liked anyway. Even more expensive ones weren't as nice imo.

      Thanks for all your comments

I have a promise ring, and makes me so happy to wear it !
Was not expensive at all, could be plastic and I would still show to everybody.

That's sweet. My girlfriend loved it too especially the promises that went with it! I'm really glad i did it now as she was completely made up with it!

a promise ring is a great idea. my fiance gave me a promise ring. he proposed without an engagement ring- not ideal but I think when he can afford a ring he'll propose again. so get your girl a promise ring. I wear mine every day and it makes me feel connected to my guy.

I'm so glad she liked it and everything went well!! giving a promise ring it's great when you both know what your next step is going to be but you don't have the means to take it yet.

And regarding the material and cost, it really wouldn't matter to me... my ex gave me a silver promise ring, no fancy, colorful rocks on it... NOTHING! and he actually found it on the street the day before he gave it to me... he wanted to give me a ring, but he didn't had the money and when he found the ring there, on the middle of the street, he took it as a sign. I didn't care he didn't pay a thing for it (I was with him when he found it, but I thought he'd keep it for himself), but I was more than happy with the promises he made at the time.
