A set back! :(

I have mentioned in a few posts that up to now, I have been the one doing all the travelling to see my SO because of green card issues and now passport issues... the passport issues were supposed to be resolved any day now... so, I did a flight search again today (I like to do them every few days) and the flights for the Christmas holidays were quite affordable! So I told SO about it and he called the embassy for a follow-up on his passport and he found out that they had emailed him about it (at the wrong address) Now, he found out he has to renew his birth certificate first, then he can renew his passport... so Christmas holidays are out for him to visit me... so now I will be going to him again... but it is so much more expensive for me to visit him because we can't stay with his mother (at 28 years old!) so we will have to stay somewhere! It's so frustrating since I have a house for us to stay...

I really can't afford this trip, but I'll make it work because I only get 2 kid free weeks a year and my next chance to go to him will be August!

I can't wait until he can leave the country and visit me! It's been over 6 months now that we've been expecting him to be able to come to me soon... now it's looking like another 6 months, at least...

Does anyone have some tips and ideas on ways to make extra money? My work availability is quite crazy specific since I am a single mother... Any ideas how I could make a few hundred dollars from home?

I'm so sorry to hear this! I really have no advice for you -- or ideas. I'm in a money strapped boat too and it seems to be sinking. It would be nice to find some kind of work online that you can do from your home but the ones I've checked out are bogus scams.

I wish I had any ideas/advice for you. Does your SO help out with your traveling seeing as you are the one that goes to see him all the time? Not really my business lol just curious. If I hear of something around our area I will be sure to let you know!

Haha did you know that there is a girl that looks a bit like you that works at a post office on Rideau... ? I was all awkward because I didn't know if I should introduce myself or what but then I looked at her name tag and she was not you... also when I got home I checked your picture on here again and realized you don't look THAT much like her!!

And yes, SO always helps me with my travel expenses! Actually my first trip to see him was completely covered by him... the next trips were split depending on our financial situations at the time...

I was all awkward because I didn't know if I should introduce myself or what but then I looked at her name tag and she was not you... also when I got home I checked your picture on here again and realized you don't look THAT much like her!!

well it's downtown but a little bit East... like Sandy Hill-ish area... haha and you are prettier than her! I thought maybe it was because she had no make-up on ...

And it's neat that you work downtown... I live about a 15-20 minute walk from Rideau Centre!

Aww I'm so sorry! I wasn't sure if my SO was going to be able to come for Christmas holidays, but we did just book his ticket, so I wish that could happen for you, too. I'm so sorry!

However, money ideas wise, the quickest and easiest way I've found is picking up old stuff around your house you don't use anymore and selling it on Amazon. Books are especially easy to sell--do you have any old college textbooks you've never gotten rid of? Any books you've been meaning to read but know you'll never get around to? I made five hundred bucks in a couple of months, and it's a nice surprise for income every now and again.

Today, I just came up with the money to book my flight! I'll be booking it tomorrow!! Yay!!

Now only accommodations to worry about and I am hoping I can leave that up to him... At worst, I know he has some things he had been meaning to sell, so maybe he can follow my lead and come up with the money that way!

I sold my DSLR camera. My sister borrowed it for 2 months, and I never even noticed it was missing... so I thought selling it wouldn't be heart-wrenching... The way I look at it, I'll buy a new camera when I can afford it! I have a bunch of baby items I'll try to sell next to get money to buy Christmas presents! That will be awesome since it will de-clutter my space too... I'm wracking my brain to see if there is anything else I can sell, but unless I sell my ex-mother-in-law's ugly china that I am storing to give to my daughters (so they can store it and give it to their daughters lol) I'm all out of ideas!
