Or unorthodox or strange or socially unacceptable? I know, this is one of the many 'Oh how did you meet with each other' threads on here but I guess this can be different.

I still get a lot of flack for meeting my SO online on a game ("how do you know he's not just scamming you for a green card?" "how do you know he's not going to steal your identity or stalk/rape/murder you?" "how do you know he is who he says he is?"), so I guess that makes it socially unacceptable.

Its funny how the internet has become a way of life for almost everyone now a days. And it seems that meeting online is, even now, socially unacceptable. We still get the odd look when we say we met online (even if it was a dating site!). "How did you know he was a decent guy?" I get that way too much!

I don't know if it's unusual to meet online anymore really at least for teens my age. Most people just don't know any better than to believe the stupid stereotypes flying around. But I guess it is unusual that we met because everyone online is so curious as to who looks like what (we met due to a thread I posted about showing pictures of ourselves, we were a really tight knit community so it didn't feel weird or anything )

My SO and I had a pretty long history of chemistry and liking each other but the relationship itself started out as a hook up. But the day after I think we sort of realized we had gotten what we had wanted for several years and that we shouldn't let it go and we decided to make it official.

But ye i think it will be akward to tell my friends/family we met in an online shooting game. Since that automatically turns him into a rapist/murderer/psychopath/pedophile for them. And being interracial doesn't make it any easier. But im not ashamed to share my story.
The reaction what i usually get from my friends is, I dont know how you do it without seeing eachother. What if he cheats on u? You dont know what he is doing. Those kind off things....

I think it's amazing that of the millions of websites that exist, my SO and I happened to be on the same one at the same time, and of the hundreds of members of that particular site, we happened to cross paths. I suppose that's true for most people who met online though!

Whenever I tell people how I met my husband I always get strange looks and comments. I actually don't care what people think, it's not their life so they have no room to judge. Anyway I met him via a prison pen pal site. Wrote to each other for some years, went to meet him and his family on numerous occasions and the rest is history. We married a few months after his release.......

I tend to avoid telling people how we met until they ask.. But I've gotten a lot of "that's so cute" comments from people, but I don't know what they're really thinking. I remember before I met him for the first time.. people were kinda skeptical, some of my aunts were reminding me to "watch out for redflags" and since I only really told my friends a few weeks before that I knew this guy online that I liked, and then we got into a relationship, they didn't realize I'd been talking to him for a year at that point, and my one friend was really concerned for me. That was my fault though, because when we were first talking, I didn't feel the need to share it with my friends.. well I didn't share much with them actually, I'm sort of a private person.. my SO is the person I'm most comfortable with.. though of course as time progressed, I'm more comfortable telling people about my SO and how we met and everything, because I want to show people I'm confident with our relationship.
Okay so how we met.. it's not that unusual because it was a dating/friendship site.. but it's a bit unusual because it's not a very big one and not that active either.. it's AspieAffection.com, and for people on the Autistic Spectrum, mostly people with Asperger's Syndrome. If it wasn't for me being diagnosed with Aspergers when I was 16 and then finding WrongPlanet.net and then finding AspieAffection.com (both sites were created by the same guy), and if it wasn't for my SO's friend to have Aspergers and then my SO to realize he showed signs of Aspergers and for his friend to recommend the site to him, and if it wasn't for my SO to find my profile and wink at me, and for me to check my email and see that and go to AspieAffection and respond, then we wouldn't have met. I'm SO glad we met, of course, because it turned out that I met the most amazing man in the world! <3

I try to avoid telling people too much. It's not the whole meeting online part that I hate to say, it's the fact that we haven't met yet. Granted, that'll change in a month, but it's still awkward to tell people how we met.
We met in a Skype group call that a friend of mine added him to, so I just tell people a friend introduced us which technically is true.
I go to a Christian school where most of them seem to believe dating is just bad. and when a few girls started asking about him I just told them the truth and though I could tell they thought it was weird/stupid, they're pretty supportive. One girl actually regularly asks me how many days left til he's here.
