ALSO, this is kind of illegal sooooooo..... but have you ever thought of just entering Australia on a tourist visa? If you're working for your family maybe they are able to pay you in cash under the table? If not, I know there are other places (like restaurants, bars, cafes, etc) willing to pay in cash for employment. You could also work odd jobs or clean houses, babysit, etc. for cash.
A friend of mine has been living in Australia for over a year now on just a tourist visa, and she works in a bar and gets paid in cash. You can also get work as an au pair on just a tourist visa.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm in Australia now on a working holiday visa, and I'm working (legally) as a Nanny. I wouldn't be stupid enough to come here under visa conditions I wouldn't be intending to stick to. It actually really winds me up to think anyone is doing that kind of thing when the people who want to be here and are trying so hard to legally stay are having to go through so much in terms of paperwork and processing times, and more besides.

I feel you there in my small town no work at all and yet im in a frustated situation cause out where my bf lives there are alot more jobs yet i cant afford to move out there i can barely get enough if im lucky to even visit this year and sadly his finances aint much better so im stuck in nc when the school i want to go to is near him and the jobs are out there near him too
