I bought a set of Pierre Cardin luggage that looks like this:

I love it, but I should have gotten the grey/black combo. The tan just gets beat to hell!

Whether you're going for hard shell, or soft, definitely get 4 wheels - It's alot easier to maneuver around an airport than two... I have one with two wheels that I used for years, then I recently borrowed my bfs with four wheels - So much easier!!

Also personally I prefer the soft luggage but thats just me its really up to you, and make sure it does have some sort of design or something to make it easy to spot.

When buying it make sure its fairly good quality especially the zippers. I bought my bag from Bentley(a bag store in Canada, not sure if they have it in the states) about 10 years ago and its just starting to get a bit of wear so I think its time for a new one. But I would recommend getting better quality even if it costs a bit more because in the end it will last alot longer and save you money.

Once again, thank you all for the comments and advice. However, I have a question. Since I'm sure many of you have more travel experience than I do, when the airlines say that the checked luggage can be no longer than 62 inches in length, is that actual length or the length, width, and height added together? I've heard it was them all added together, but I thought that sounded a bit strange, so I thought I'd ask and see if any of you all know.

Good question, I'm not really sure, but I know that all the standard size suitcases out there fit those airline regulations. If you aren't getting one really oddly shaped, or extra-extra big, whatever you get will be fine. They come in standard sizes, you'll notice, both height and width, so unless you look for something unusual, you'll meet the airlines rules.

It's total-- just add the dimensions of your bag together. For example, if a bag is 32 x 15 x 20 inches, 32 + 15 + 20 = 67 inches, which would be too big. On the other hand, a bag that is 26 x 16 x 15 (= 57 inches) is within the regulations.
