    Sending packages (Canada)

    Hi,
I'm looking at sending my SO something like a hoodie and a few other things but I'm wondering if there is a better way than Canada post to send it.
Last time I sent her something (a small jewelry box) it cost about $30 to send it with the most basic shipping option. I'm worried that it'll cost a fortune and I'd almost be better delivering it in person if the cost scales with the size.. A hoodie and other small things are much larger than a a small jewelry box haha
Is there a trick to sending packages so it won't cost an arm and a leg?
I've lately resorted to buying her things online, but that isn't quite as special as me seeing something in a store, or making something myself to give her.
    Thanks,
    The Aegis

By the way, I'm in BC and she is in Alberta

I used Canada Post to send packages to my boy in the UK twice and both times they were far more expensive than I would have expected I'm not sure if Fedex would be any better. I've heard that if you know someone who works for Fedex you might be able to get a friends/family discount.

I have no idea why it cost you that much? You could drive it to her? The most you'd have to drive is like 15 hours

Are you sending it by post or courier? Yowch that's a lot! I sent a hoodie from Edmonton to NEW ZEALAND and it was only about $15 postage!

Honestly, I don't trust Canada Post. The last time I sent him a package for his birthday it got lost and I had to re-do everything and send it with tracking. They're ridiculously tardy.

Yikes! That seems like a lot for B.C. to Alberta. I wonder if you might send it with Grey Hound? A family member sends packages that way and it doesn't seem to matter as much about the size of the package (I could be wrong, though, as I have not sent things that way, but she seems to find it a lot cheaper than Canada Post, for Canadian mail).

You could send it via grey hound. She'd have to be there when the bus arrives to take the package off the bus though...
