    The problem is that his crush seems more than random crush most of us feel to an attractive person. He definitely ventured into inappropriate and he's aware of it, which is why he felt compelled to tell you. I think you have every right to feel upset about it.

    I'm glad you seem to be working on it. Just don't go out of your way for him - this is something he needs to deal with by himself first and foremost. You should certainly be a support to each other, but still, you're the person who was hurt the most by this revelation, it's just not right if you end up consoling him.

    If he honestly wants to get over it, he'll do what it takes. If it means reduced contact with the said friend for awhile, so be it. You shouldn't normally choose between friendship and relationship but in this situation he has to sort his priorities out or he might possibly lose both. But leave it up to him to decide what he should do to get over it. He needs to speak with decisions and actions now, not words.
