Carry on question!

I'm traveling to Daniel in July and I was wondering what type of carry on bag could fit my clothing, DSLR and Laptop? I'm going for ten days! Also, Whats the different between a rolling duffle bag and suitcase? I'm a little new to traveling, plus this will be my first flight alone! Thanks guys!

Hi there! I can't help because whenever I travel to my boyfriend I take my checked bag that has my clothes in and just a purse as carry on. (I don't like being separated by it in the place above and then I get worried I won't be able to get it in and out and have to rely on other people more!) and I don't take my laptop. I've thought of it but it weighs too much and my boyfriend has a computer! I do now have a DSLR which I will bring in my purse with me I believe and I'll work that out when I get to it, or I might just put it in my checked baggage and make sure it's nice and snug but I'd feel safer with it in my bag plus then I can take pictures at the airport if I'm bored! DSLRs are so much fun!!

My advice for if you want a carry on bag is to make sure you read your airline's rules on how big it can be and take a measuring tape out to make sureand check the weight. Although when I was looking at my first flight alone to see my boyfriend, I got a bit confused but they never measure my purse so I just do that and then I can stick it under the seat in front of me on the plane and have access to all my things to occupy me on the 9 hour flight! :P I don't know about whether you get a free checked luggage on your flights as I think USA domestic flights have different rules.

How much clothing are you planning on taking? Also what screen size/how big is your laptop?

It might be hard to fit clothing with both items of technology because laptops are heavy and SLR's are heavy.

Our limit is 40inches (you basically get one carry on and you can bring a purse/laptop bag) and basically as long as you're not dragging it because of the weight it should be fine LOL I'd never do checked baggage (there's a $20 fee I think depending on size), mostly because last time I came home from FL my checked bag got lost! D:<

I'll probably take one pair of jeans, one pair of sweats, regular tshirts, two skirts and a dress with me. Plus shoes....hair dryer+flat iron...it gets REALLY hot in MO in july (100s). I don't think we'll be going out that much while i'm there on account of him needing to go to school and work

You're probably going to exceed the allowed weight limit then. (Both the carry-on and small bag are under the one weight limit, but they do rarely weight it.) It's up to you whether or not you want to risk being over the limit.

Another option is to bring your laptop bag as a personal item. Since you're flying domestic, I assume the flight won't be more than a few hours? You could easily bring a book, an iPod and your laptop in a laptop bag and use that as your personal item and then have your regular suitcase as your carry-on.

She'll need it to talk to me when he's at school/work. Or other friends who happen to be on FB and LFAD and not on vacation like last time she tried to poke me and I had no time.

If you don't take your laptop, just carry your camera outside of the suitcase.

Hi! I'm a pro at flying and can really help with this question!

My advice would be to get a small suitcase (a rolling suitcase is best because you don't have to lug it around) or a duffle bag to pack your clothes and laptop in. I just got in last night from a trip home/seeing my SO and had some clothes, my laptop, a few DVDs, and things that didn't fit in one of my checked bags, in my carry on (a duffle). Most luggage will actually tell you if it's carry on size when you buy it. I got a luggage set for graduation and it came with a carry on size bag and a rolling suitcase that also meets carry on size requirements.

Are you planning on checking a bag or just taking a carry on? I know a lot of people try to get away with not checking a bag because some airlines charge for them (not 100% sure which ones because I'm in the military and can check 2 bags for free). If you're not planning on checking a bag, be sure to only take travel size liquids (3 oz or less!) You can buy travel size empty containers to put your shampoo and conditioner in. Oh, and as for getting your clothes to fit, ROLL them! I learned that trick in basic and it saves you so much space! Take two shirts, short, jeans, etc and lay them flat, one on top of the other. Then roll them together and place them in your bag. Regular folding uses a lot more space than rolling.

p.s. I've never had my carry on bag weighed. As long as it fits in the overhead compartment, it will be fine. There are times when the plane is small so those with bags with wheels on them, will leave their carry on bag at the jetway (right before you get on the plane) and will get their bag back at the jetway once they land. Checked bags do get weighed and if it's more than 50 pounds, they charge so much extra per pound :/

Can you just not put your purse into your carry on bag when you board the plane, and put the camera around your neck (assuming that you cannot get the camera to fit in the bag)
