Do you take your partner's fashion advice?

My SO and I usually agree on fashion stuff, though he would prefer if I dressed a bit more girly, I'm a tomboy who wears big shirts and jeans 99% of the time. But if he says something would look good or bad on me I'd trust it.

I was thinking about this today because my SO is going with me to get a fancy dress. My style is much more funky and eclectic than his. He prefers clean and simple. While I like something special and fun. He's usually supportive of my fashion choices, but can also be quite critical when it's something that's not "normal". For example, he hates my pattern tights.

So I always take his fashion advice with a grain of salt.

How about you? Does your partner have good taste? Bad taste? Different than yours? Do you like to shop with them?

my SO mainly bases his fashion choices on can I get away with wearing a t shirt with holes in it for this event- yes or no? and then chooses one of his t shirts with holes (and not the fashion type of holes!) or one without. For a really posh event he might wear a jumper (that i bought him...!) so probably not the best fashion guru! However i'm a girl who although I don't follow fashion, id like to think i had a good eye and enjoy dressing well. He likes what i wear and i do make sure that im not going on a date in something i know he wouldnt like, however his favourite 'me' is me in jeans and a cami top! so lots of effort for nothing there! He sometimes comments on things in shops but ive bought something he hated before and then he liked it on, so I dont follow all of his advice though he does try and give it if he thinks i'd like to know!

On the flipside, she is starting to take my advice as well. We still clash because I want her to dress too 'Russian' like but one day!

When we go shopping together, though, he tends to point at horrible things that I would never buy.

This. If I followed Obi's suggestions I'd probably look like a slut. A 50 year old one. Because he always looks at clothes that I can't make look good until after my midlife crisis.

I do ask for his opinion on things though. He will tell me if my thighs look huge/legs look stumpy/these jeans are giving me a double bum or whatever. And if he tells me I look nice/hot/sexy/beautiful I remember what I wore so I can dress similarly in future.

My SO is great at complimenting me, but I've never really taken him clothing shopping with me. He likes my clothing so far, but hasn't really given any advice. Maybe this summer.

He has the ability to look very handsome but tends to prefer his gamer wardrobe of old t-shirts and hoodies. If we end up settling down somewhere together some day, I'm doing to accidently shrink the most tattered ones. I love his style but a couple pieces need to be retired!

I do! Whenever R sees something I'm wearing (like this pair of jeans and top i'm wearing this morning) and he likes it, he'll really compliment it and I'll be wearing them more. I like his fashion sense, and he has told me to buy stuff that I wouldn't normally buy because he thinks they look good on me. Aaaaand... people really compliment me because of them!

He also taught me to wear sexier underwear. I now feel better about myself and my body.

Sometimes he picks things out that he thinks I'd look nice in, and typically I like them too. However the frequency is really low!

I've noticed that if I like something he wears and comment on it, he'll wear it more often.

It depends. We always compliment each other if we like an outfit (okay, he compliments me every day and tells me I'm beautiful and sexy...he's kind of my built-in self-confidence booster ), and sometimes I'll tell him he looks crazy handsome a zillion times in the space of five minutes. He always tells me he loves my style, and thinks I dress myself extremely well. I'm simple, clean, and classy, and he says I have great taste.

I'm not going to lie, his style has improved exponentially since we've met. When I first met him, pretty much all he wore were t-shirts and shorts. Not that I'm much different--but there were times when he dressed like an eighteen year old (he's thirty-one). I just kind of let him do his thing, cause, hey, he's been dressing himself for years, and I trust his judgment. I always think he's handsome anyway.

There were a couple of times this past year when the "fashion" question came up, and they actually turned out much better than I thought. The first time, he messaged me one day, asking if I liked these Timbaland white sneakers. I tried to be as nice about it as I could, but I straight up thought they were just fugly. I think I phrased it, "Personally, I'm not a huge fan...I think they look more like something an eighteen year old would wear, but if that's what you want, I'm not going to stop you." He then asked me what type of shoes I thought he should get (I think he was looking for dress shoes?), so I sent him some pictures of classy black dress shoes. (This spawned a joke that all I want him to wear is black, since everything I'd pointed out that day happened to be black...but that's an aside ) He got a little miffed and said he wouldn't wear the white sneakers, dammit! But then a few days later, after I'd completely forgotten about the incident, he came back and said I was right, and that he'd been thinking about my observations, and that he realized he'd been dressing like an eighteen year old. So, per his "binge" style, he bought an entire new dress wardrobe when he came to visit here with all the Christmas sales.

We shop together, but will wander apart at times to pick out some things more suited to our own personal tastes. We can get cranky and mean with each other if one of us has to wait too long for the other in a section we couldn't give two shits about. Besides, half the fun is reuniting and showing each other what we got (and kissing a million times over when we meet, too!).

I would if my SO had a better sense of style. He has never given me inputs besides my hairstyle (which I change often) and I always listen to what he says, but I dunno about fashion... Oh, he once commented how he liked seeing me in skirts, but I'm not sure if that counts. ;P I've been the one to give advice to him though and he didn't seem to listen to it much anyways. Maybe if we went shopping together...

For sure! I love modeling clothes for her and she's very honest about the things she likes or not. And we have very similar styles, so if she would wear it, then it must be good! hehe

You know, I've learned that yes there are times when one should dress nice for special occasions and when one can wear whatever. My SO is a country boy and wears t shirts jeans and boots. I don't really care. It fits who he is and I think he's handsome. I dress nicely in My opinion and he said he does have other clothes for special occasions as well. If you dress decently where its not too sloppy then I think its fine.

It depends, sometimes he'll say something suits me, other times he makes no comment. I know he know what I like and what looks good coz he brought me some clothes as a Christmas/Birthday present (my birthday is 12 days after Christmas, same as his ) I think he wears what looks good on him, and he has good fashion sense, but mine is crap so not sure if that's true or not! LOL

Nope. My SO lives in t-shirts from various sports teams that he either played on or likes and jeans or his hockey warm up sweat pants. Even though he looks super attractive, he'd suggest the same things for me and I like to get a little bit more dolled up than that haha. However, he likes my fashion sense and I love modeling clothes for him, whenever I'm shopping and can't really decide, I'll send him a picture to see what he says but ultimately, decide for myself haha.

He has no advice for me, says he's fine with how I dress. I don't think I'd follow his advice if he were to give it though. He's shown me things in shoes and hair that he likes, that have been just frightening.
