    Feeling of Dread

So, I think I really need to start listening to those instincts I have when something terrible is going to happen. I've been dreading flying out of the country for a week and I went to go in this morning to check in, took forever for no real reason. I got delayed because I didn't have information I needed and the SO wasn't paying attention. 30min later flight, cool. Still had time to get around sydney, specially since I didn't have to check in bags. Go down to customs and they ask for my passport.....

Where's my passport? After freaking out for about 3 hours, I find out its back in brisbane airport. Well, that little idiocy of not checking things and being more careful just cost me nearly $400 and I'm still not completely recovered. I have a flight tomorrow booked at no cost, but the american side, I can't get ahold of because its a public holiday today and Expedia isn't open apparently. So I may have to pay for a flight too. Lovely. The money I had saved for a new house when I got back is being spent on my mishap and I now know to be more careful when traveling. This is my first time doing it alone, internationally. The only other time I went to the states, I was with a bunch of people so they dealt with all the check in.

Worst day I've had in a long time in a very bad two weeks D= That said. Thanks to those who gave advice for sydney airport, much appreciated. Worked a charm.

I'm glad that you handled getting to Sydney Airport ok.

When I visited my GF in late 2011, I left a tub of peanut butter and vegemite in my carry on bag by mistake, so it got taken off of me when I went through security (What a sad day, it was heartbreaking).

I also constantly worry about forgetting something important, even once I have boarded the plane. Luckily you were able to re-book your flight to the US for free. Why was your passport at Brisbane Airport? Did you leave it there by mistake or was it at the fault of somebody else?

Yeah that flight is fine. It's the LAX to Philly I'm worried about. I think I may have to pay for a new ticket, but oh well. These things happen when you don't travel often.

It was my fault completely. I didn't leave it there. The guy at the check in actually put it between my booking paper and I put that, my purse and my boarding tickets in the front zip of my bag so I wouldn't lose them whilst I was going through security. I think what may have happened was I dropped by pulling the tickets out of the bag at the gate. It is the only thing which makes sense in my mind.

I am so sorry! You sound like you're having a really hard time ): The first time I flew internationally I was a wreck. It's really stressful if you don't do it often or haven't at all. The thing I've learned to do is just double and triple check all of you're things that you need. Take a breath. You'll get through it! <3

Ugh, bad luck! I'm sorry to hear you had to go through that

When it comes to travelling my SO is actually paranoid about having forgotten something. Until we're on the train/whatever he'll be patting his pockets literally every two minutes to make sure everything is still there, and from time to time he'll have to check out loud to himself "wallet... keys... passport..." What's worse though is when I'm the one carrying our documents, because he'll keep stopping to ask "are you sure you have the tickets, etc.?" I ask him, if he's so worried about it then why doesn't he take our stuff, and his reply is that he doesn't want the responsibility lest he lose anything Drives me absolutely mad, but I guess at least it's better to be safe than sorry.

I'm sure you'll be fine from now on. Once you get into the swing of travelling, keeping track of your belongings becomes second nature

Bugger! You do get used to the travelling process over time. I also tend to hold onto my passport (or as of late, put it inside a passport wallet that I bought) so I can make sure that I don't forget my passport at any stage.

oh i'm sorry! This sounds like one of my worst nightmares..

I often have like 3 or 4 things i'm holding at once between my fingers on one hand.. whilst going through security, once I did actually drop my passport while I was in the cue, but I noticed luckily.

I'm a nervous traveler lol, especially travelling alone

Update. It is all sorted out. It just cost most of my savings for when I came back. A 1k accident. But a lesson hard learned. I got my passport this morning and I'm not letting it out of my sight. The only reason I needed to put it in my bag to go through security was because I thought I was in much more of a rush than I was, because the time of the first flight, so I was running. Rather than run with my purse, flight info, tickets and passport, I put it in my bag for safe keeping. Ironically. I got bomb tested probably because I looked nervous or something haha. I will be on a plane in about 5 hours

It's good to know I'm not the only one who gets nervous when traveling. I take a bus but even for me I still get really nervous because I know I lose stuff easily. Last trip I was on when I went to see my SO I almost didn't make it out of the terminal because I almost left my ticket. Luckily there was an elderly gentleman who found it in my seat and he brought it up to me. Can never be too careful. Glad everything worked out for you.
