Update: The travel agent said that there's basically nothing that I can do but if I chose not to go on the flight and we (by "we" i mean his family his paying for it) just get him a one way here I have up to a year to use the ticket for something else.

I'm sorry this happened. Have you considered getting a pay as you go visa? This way you deposit the cash that you have and can buy anywhere rather than going through loop holes.

I'd recommend this for the next time because there was a time I didn't have a credit card and this made it easier to have my purchases protected and gave me the opportunity to shop around.

I'll definitely look into it! For now though all we can do is save the ticket. Maybe we can visit his family next summer. He's coming in 3 weeks!! AHH!
