At the moment we've had to add a new dimension as we are both in university now so not only does that mean less money to visit but less time too. And this coming summer he will likely be busier working on a project with his class so we have over a year between our last visit in August and our next visit which will likely be after he graduates with his BSc in June 2015, I might even get there for his graduation. It's going to be hard, but taking it one day at a time, and with making time to talk every day still, it will be possible.
It sucks but we had to go to university.. because the way it was going previously, yeah I could save up for visits, but then I'd spend all my money on the visit and have to start all over again.. so the options were either spending trying to work more at a job I hated, and maybe spending more time apart anyways so I could save up more money and apply to close the distance, or go to university and be better prepared to enter a job which I want to do.. so we had to do that. And it's going to be worth it when we are able to close the distance eventually and live together, and hopefully can do it sooner rather than later. But we do what we can.
EDIT: ahh I forgot to be clear, so previously it had been once a year that we saw each other, but now it's going to be a bit more time... though in summer 2015 until we close the distance it might be once a year again because my SO should be able to get a job and help pay for visits.

Hie,
my SO and I just got together a little over a moth ago but are planning long term. I would love to go see him this month or in December if I have the time (don't know what is happening at work because I am returning from sick leave and I am waiting for work to come up with a plan. We have talked about me coming down for a long weekend/even just a weekend though) and the money. Right now the money is more a problem than the time, because I am buying smartphones for us to have easier communication (he has been to net cafees a LOT), that will take up a lot of my budet this year and so it will take longer to save money to travel. He does not make much money, so money=my money, for the most part.
What is almost settled, is that he is coming the last week of January to stay with me around ten days, on a tourist/Schengen visa. He usually has insane work hours and little vacation per year. In his vacation he is a part time student (often working a bit then too), and he goes to see his family for 10 days. My SO is with his family right now visiting, I just met his brother today via Skype I would prefer to see my SO sooner and think 3 1/2 months is streching it, but good phones will give us much more options. I hope planning will be easier by new year, then budget is also better; those two things combined might make it possible to get a good deal on plane tickets/hotels for next year. Even though I long to see him, I am a little relieved that I get to spend Christmas with my familiy, including my youngest sister who lives in the capital and don't visit here much apart from Christmas and summer. Also, it makes me calm to know that without me there to "stress" him at home, he will actually have time to study, which hopefully will benefit us since he finaly finishing the degree can give him better hours and better pay, a more interesting job and potentially a means to close the distance should we want to.
Our plans include us seeing each other for a week or more 4 times a year;
- He comes here around the 20th of January 2014, 10 days. I will work, but I will suit other things as to get the most time with him. He will also meet my husband.
- Then I spent Easter with him in mid-April, a week or 10 days. All of Norway is CLOSED anyway! He will be working, but I can hang around at his job if we want, and I know he would spent most of his spare time with me and live with me at my hotel).
- For sommer we have talked loosely about me going back there, staying upt to 3 weeks, maybe that is possible if I find cheep rent or a deal for more than 2 weeks. My husband would like to accomany me (and get some warmth and holidy feeling too), if so we would have to get two rooms if he comes along.
- I hope to go back in the fall break in September/October for a week (that was how I met him!)
- Then I guess he might be coming to see me in Nov/Dex/Jan (whenever cold season is there and his exams are over) for new 10 days.
Basically I will spend most of whatever holiday I have with him, and throw in a much money as I reasonably can. My SO has an ex who used to travel to see him about 5-6 times a year (I don't think he ever went to her country); I guess if I could throw in a lcouple of long weekends, I could do it, too, if I stretched my budget and went for it.
We also talked very loosely about the possability of him coming here for a longer time, as a student on a student visa. II guess that depends on how he will be doing on the exams he is about to take now! I would be very exited would he actually get the time to stay here for maybe 3 or 6 months - though I think we should know each other better first if we plan to spend so much time together. The upside is that he actually has got several good friends living in Norway, even in my home town too, and he is a very sociable guy, so I would not worry that we would not like it here (but a bit worried that he would be a lazy student, though! I would not support it if he does not finish his current degree first).Last edited by differentcountries; November 3, 2013, 04:22 PM.I made love to him only twice, she thought and looked at the man laying asleep beside her. And yet still it is as if we have been together forever, as if he has always known my life, my soul, my body, my light, my pain

Some of you are very fortunate to have seen your SO as much as you have! Makes me a little envious. :P My boyfriend and I have only seen each other once in the past year and a half. He works a lot and goes to college full time so his schedule is jam packed and for me, I'm barely working enough to support myself, let alone save to go visit him. But hopefully we can plan something soon. It would be nice! I miss him like crazy.

My SO and I have been lucky enough to see each other every 3-4 months over the span of almost two years. It's impossible for us to see each other more than that because of school/work schedules for the both of us. We are currently experiencing our longest time apart (6 months), but I will get to visit him for 3 weeks over Christmas break!!

We had 1.5 years before we met initially. Then he came to visit me and 3 months after I visited him. Then 4 months after that, he flew back over to me and "picked me up." We then came back here and closed the distance.
We managed to visit that often only because we knew we wanted to close the distance ASAP. It was important for each of us to visit the other place before I packed up and moved my whole life 8,000 miles away. So we made it work.

We've been long distance for 3 months now, and by our first visit, we'll have gone 4 and a half months without seeing each other, but we'll be together for about a month or so. This will probably be the case from February-May, but we might have a visit in March, for a week, depending on how spring break lines up. Since I am a poor college student, and he is a part-time working high school student, visits have to be very planned, and can't happen often. Unfortunately we have to rely on our parents, but they have been huge blessings to us.started dating: 12/08/12

Our first year of LD, once a semester. Then our 3rd and 4th year together, at least once every six weeks. This semester I don't have a job yet, so we've gone maybe a week. This has been the longest, next time I'll see him it'll have been two weeks. But once I get a job I know that will increase drastically.

When she lived in a Atlanta it was once every six months. I had to fly there. And flying from Canada to the US is very expensive even if we are so close. Last yeah her and her family moved to Pennsylvania, yay!, and that's just a 6.5 hour drive away. Way cheaper and way faster, so I try to go see her every month and a half or two! I like this setup way more! hehe
