Partner with Avoidant Personality Disorder ?

Dose anyone here have a partner with diagnosed Avoidant Personality Disorder? ( AVPD) I'm looking to get some advice and support. I tried looking online for a forum but they all just have people complaining about their husbands. I'm looking for positive support. Not negative.

I didn't either. What does it mean? How is it diagnosed?

I have a friend like that, a couple of years younger than me. He's never been in a relationship, I don't think he's ever kissed a girl either. So if your SO is diagnosed and is actually in a relationship with you, I guess that's already a big step for him.

I've met him on a forum ages ago and over the years we've occasionally been in touch through email - touching base every now and then. He's very likeable and insightful in his emails, introspective but not self-obsessed. We've met in person a few times too and he's just as nice really. It's just that he seems very highly sensitive to his surroundings. He's like a sponge, taking everything in. He used to work as wedding photographer, but decided to drop it as he often couldn't detach himself from the emotional pressure of such events and it was causing him anguish. He's currently seeing a therapist specialised in relationship problems and seems to be making some progress.

Anyway, I don't know what advice to give to you except that it's a long and winding road even when he fully accepts it and works on it. Good luck xx

He was diagnosed by his counselor. People with it often avoid social situations such as family events work environments crowded public places. Are easily overwhelmed and highly sensitive to negative judgment. People with it often have trouble finding or keeping a job, interacting with others, etc. basically anything that requires socializing in any way is very difficult for them. It's not that they don't want to it's that they can't.

That is a search I did on Google, of discussions about it. There a number of popular websites where it is discussed.
