Language Problems?

I don't have a language difference between me and Ryan.
But does anyone speak a different language then their SO? If so what? Does the difference in language affect your relationship?

My SO and I don't have any language problems either. She speaks English and I was raised bilingual - German & English.

my SO speaks turkish but thankfully speaks prefect english. all his family speaks only turkish so i had learned some turkish while i was in turkey but not enough to carry on a conversation with them

Well.... My SO and I both speak English but... with his computer talk and New York lingo... I can barely understand him anyways XD lol :P

I speak English and my guy's native language is Finnish. He's fluent in English and I'm fluent in cursing in Finnish He didn't learn English formally, is mostly self-taught, but almost everybody speaks English in Finland. He'll occasionally mispronounce words, or ask for help with a word he's never had to say out loud before, but that's it, we don't have any communication problems. I haven't met his mother yet, but she doesn't speak English at all, so when and if the time comes, it should be interesting!

Thankfully both me and my SO speak English. I'm terrible at learning second languages, even Spanish which half my family speaks around me and 2 years of classes in high school and I still can't speak it properly (though I can understand it about half of the time). I have alot of respect for couples who learn something as intricate as a new language to be with their lovers, my own mom now speaks perfect Spanish since my dad didn't speak anything else when they first got together!

I admit I am not fluent in english or writing and speaking english in a correct grammar, but I keep on trying my very best that atleast he could understand what i am trying to say or express my feelings. Sometimes he misunderstood me or I am to him, and then suddenly he will just said " oh yeah, i know... simple english please (lol) "
He is my english teacher at the same time too.

My SO and I both speak English....but I did date some one that was from Turkey...it was a very interesting relationship when it came to language. He wrote very well.....but when it came time to speaking it was difficult at times...but as a former English teacher..I loved teaching him!

I'm from Denmark, so my native language is Danish. I have no problems with English, but can't use it with my SO.
Since he doesn't really understand English. He is from Japan, so we speak Japanese together. Meaning we depend on my Japanese skills.
I've never actually studied Japanese - it's self taught, by remembering all the words I hear.

I don't really think we have any language problems. Since, if I don't know the word in Japanese, I just try to say it in English, with a Japanese accent (since he understands some English words). If I don't understand a certain word he says, then he just choses a more easy word or try to explain that word with other Japanese words. If it all fails, then we both have electronic dictionaries. XD

Now I especially appreciate that I have gotten to practice so much Japanese. Since I've started university (majoring in Japanese) and nobody in my class knows Japanese. (only a few words and sentences) so I've gotten ahead already. A second year student even heard me talk on the phone with my SO and then that student said I spoke way better Japanese than him.

My SO is from the States therefore his motherlanguage is English. I have been raised bilingual, German & Croatian.
But I've basically self-thaught myself English startin with about 12. And even if I was fluent I had some little problems with speakin cause I was scared of pronouncin things wrong. With him I started talkin like a waterfall tho haha.
Sometimes I do pronounce things wrong (example I have my difficulties with the stress on exam I always pronounce it wrong eventhough I know how its pronounced the right way). And sometimes when he comes up with words that I've never heard of cause its some new slang or some super never used in everyday english word than I ask what it is and he explains it to me (but this doesnt happen often). And he makes fun out of me sometimes with my pronounciation like with "epic" he says I say "aepick" which sounds like "a pig" xD
But he loves it While I blush and end up lookin like a tomato, he thinks its cute and loves it haha For some reason he likes my german accent and also likes it when I talk German, apparently its sexy xD
So we can communicate without any problems He's also wantin to take German classes next semester (he couldnt this one) so he can talk to my friends and family once he gets here. Plus I think its would be a brilliant idea to take German cause I could help him and he could get As so easily ^^
But anyway Im driftin off topic haha *shush*

We're both born English speakers (if you can call American English, "English"...it's an abomination to grammar), however he's also practically fluent in Spanish. I'm picking it up so we can speak in both languages.

I'm not very good at teaching myself. I may have to do like community college Intro Spanish or something once we're CD again. And when I have the money.

It doesn't affect the relationship in any kind of way. Sometimes we are just thinking what the english word for something could be and mark it as 'thingie' . With that word we learned to name everything in a few seconds xD
And well, my SO is learning German and me Swedish. Someday we don't need to do even that anymore. :>

Travis speaks a lot of Spanish with his family, but he talks in English 90% of the time. He doesn't have an accent or anything, he just has a Hispanic family.

my native language isn't English, but we don't have any problems. He likes my accent, but sometimes makes fun of me haha I was learned 'American' English (I mean I say 'E' in words such as cat, hat, dance...) and he's British so he says 'A'. However there is one thing I miss. My native language is rich, you can make up new words to make them sound cuter and I do that a lot when I speak it - I cant express myself like that in English and Im much funnier person in my language, but he still thinks I'm funny so it doesn't really matter.

But! Im prepared to work on myself and improve my English :P
