My SO is going to turn 48 in mid-July and unfortunately I will not be able to be there with him. I am pretty excited because I just had a great idea for what I am going to do for him.
Background:
SO is a very non-materialistic person who has a fairly small home. His love languages are quality time and physical touch, with a side of words of affirmation. He is a very content sort of person that is even keel. He rarely asks for much, but one of the few things I've heard him say he needs is to feel appreciated for things he does. He works very hard at his job and generously volunteers his time and talents to friends and good causes.
My plan:
I am going to throw a surprise birthday card/letter shower. I am planning to contact friends and family to ask them to write a short note or get a birthday card expressing their good wishes and appreciation. I'm going to ask for all the cards to be sent to my home and then I will package them up, send them back to someone who will be willing and able to arrange a fun birthday appointment, and have them give him the box of notes. In my perfect world, I will be able to get 48 cards since he is turning 48 but I think any amount over a small handful will be considered awesome.
I am fortunate to have made good connections with a number of his friends, and have met a lot of his favorite people that I know hold him in high regard. Just sitting here tossing it around in my mind, I can think of about 6-8 people in my town who I can ask, a couple dozen of his friends in his town that know well enough to connect with, and also a few people that can hook into other aspects of his life -such as his favorite work friend that I'm sure could help me get a couple additional colleagues to write a note.
I'm going to bed soon, but will get started on this right away tomorrow. The only other main thing I have to figure out is who is the best person to deliver and where, but I have a few weeks to figure that out.
