I'm a veteran. Military is hard on any relationship, and all relationships have their challenges. So many of my comrades in the Army, including myself, weren't responsible with money or in relationships. That seemed to be the norm, rather than the exception. I had a real hard time seeing myself settled down, especially knowing that I wanted to go overseas and travel. Even though I wanted a partner, I didn't know exactly how a partner would fit into my plans.

I digress. I left many an ex behind when I was trying to smack square pegs into round holes. At the end of the day, I just didn't know what I wanted.

The important thing is that I learned from those experiences. I learned what I want and don't want in relationships. I identified my goals, expectations, ground rules and bottom lines. I wrote about my ideal partner and became healthier by really looking at what happened in the relationship.

Best wishes in your recovery from this break up.

My 2nd-Cousin-In-Law, was already a Captain in the U.S. Army. When he n' my 2nd-Cousin got married in 1980. I don't know about his financial history, before or since the wedding. But semi-specific to the OP was that, when my 2nd-Cousin-In-Law was transferred to Germany(might have been Wiesbaden, don't recall) in the mid 1980's. Since they were married at that point and it was non-combat duty, they went together. They transferred back home after his time in Germany ended.

Military life is tough. But I am still agreeing with the OP.

The signs were already there, the OP said that she was the one carrying the relationship and the effort wasn't reciprocated. This shows that the guy's feelings weren't that strong to start with. This is a very sad situation to go through, but with time the OP will realize that this was the best for her and hopefully she will find someone who will put the same effort into the relationship as she does.

Stop comparing everything and assuming everyone knows what her SO felt or didn't feel etc. people fall out of love, or realize it isn't right and that's ok. Stop thinking it's the military only that people have money issues with. It's people not knowing or being mature enough not knowing how, not a job..
I am horribly sorry that Denise is hurting. That's the main thing. Supporting her without tearing others down.

Sorry. I grew up and was in the military and just get tired of stuff.. that is all.

I know exactly what you are going through. My ex broke up with me the exact same way. He lost feelings for me and just didn't wanna do distance anymore. We were also together for 2 years.

That was 3 months ago and you may not believe me now but it DOES get better. I actually enjoy being single now. I get to enjoy my freedom and talk to anyone I want without feeling guilty. Don't even think about starting over now like everyone else said and just enjoy getting to know you.

Was your (ex)s/o telling you, who you could and couldn't talk to?

Don't answer if it feels like I am prying.
