How to patch things up?

It's your decision, but if I were you, I'd cut all ties with him after this. He's obviously willing to do anything to make you feel guilty so if you don't want to be with him, he WILL do this again or something worse. Whatever his issues may be, you deserve better, and you can't always save the ones you love.

definitely over. we were texting. that's our main form of communication. then i called him but no answer. still texting him every couple minutes

Have you tried telling him something that makes it sound like you quit caring, like say "well I'm tired, night"? It might gauge a reaction or response if he believes the jig's up.
