Hey everyone! It's been quite awhile since I've been on here
I thought I would update everyone about where I am. I think last time I was on this site, my partner and I had just moved out of his parent's place and in with some friends. We stayed with the friends for about 1 1/2 year. In that time, I was able to get a full time job! My partner and I saved up and finally moved into our own place! We've been living together for almost 2 months. It's definitely different than it was when living with family or living with friends, but it's nice that it's just us.
I visited my partner in February 2016 as a surprise for his birthday. A few months later, he proposed to me and we decided we didn't want to do long distance anymore. I applied for the partner visa in August 2016 and was granted my temporary partner visa in March 2017. The government doesn't start processing them for permanent residence until 2 years after the application date. So, this August will mark the 2 years after applying! I'm hoping to hear back really soon. They will reach out to me so that I can provide more evidence that our relationship is ongoing/genuine and we have plans for the future. So if everything goes smoothly, I will be getting permanent residence soon. After that, we will start planning our wedding (Finally after being engaged for 2 years!) and move forward in our life.
Looking back now, I had a very tough time a few years back. I had a hard time busying myself and finding who I am here. I still struggle with not having family here in the country, but I was able to visit my family in the states. In April 2017, I flew to the States and surprised my mom. I was only there for 2 weeks, but for me, it confirmed in my mind that I did not belong there/I didn't want to live there. It helped me work through my issues of "Is Australia the right choice?" "Do I belong here?" It was so amazing to see everyone, especially my mom. We hadn't seen each other for 14 months and as some of you who know my story, moving to Aus was very sudden for me and it wasn't really planned. However, we're planning a visit to the States again soon for the holidays.
Anyway, we're not too close to my partner's family, as they don't really have an interest in us. Plus, we moved about an hour north of them (bigger city up where we are.) I also have made some close friends here which has helped a lot. Working full time has been a big plus as well. I'm mostly busy with work and it takes my mind off other things. Sometimes it doesn't feel like it, but things have improved since coming here. It may have been a slow process, but these 2 years have gone by fast! All in all, everything is going really well and I'm so happy things are working out
I will try to come on here a bit more and hopefully be back with good news of the visa!
