And to those who are surprised the rating system is used...

I have used it..I think it is a neat way to point out the really good threads for others to read.

Mine have been rated a 1 over the last few days..any I put up...yesterday I gave it a 5 because it pissed me off someone rated another support post a one..

Whatever....it's done.

I will sit back and watch..

Hey! Looks like I am coming in on this a bit late. I noticed the one given out last night, just before I went to bed, and thought it was kind of bizarre. In general, I'm of the opinion that if you don't like someone or like their posts, that you don't have to read them (there's no one forcing you to and lingering around just to attack someone on the internet is pretty lame) and certainly don't have to comment on them or rate them. I mostly avoid the rating system, but I will occasionally give out some positive rep if I found some advice very helpful. Giving someone one star might not seem like a big deal, but I have noticed an increase lately of people making insidious, little attacks on members of our community and it only serves to the detriment of everyone.

Karringtyn, I have really appreciated your comments over time (whether they be advice, simple grettings, or sympathizing with my situation) and you definitely deserve a place to express your LDR concerns, etc. in this community.

I think the rating system is not necessarily needed on the forum except for the LDR Stories section - people post their thoughts, opinions and worries on here and it's just weird that other members can rate them... Like someone's thoughts or questions are not as good as someone else's. I haven't used it and I won't either.

The rating system is a feature built into the forum, and not something I added. I think it's great though. I tend to rate posts that made me laugh, were really nice, or just made my day.

There's nothing wrong with having a rating system, and I don't think it needs to be removed. It is the members that abuse it that should be removed.

well anytime i hit the star button it always gives me i approve message which i thought was a good message O_o is that the wrong one to hit??? oopsie lol, but your right with everything you said! without this board i would litterly go crazier then i already am heh, i get so much support and answers from people who actually get it!

I think they mean the thread rating system. That system was put in, the thread rating apparently came with the set up here. With the individual post rating you can only give positive feedback. With threads it's an option to rate high or low so it's merely another way of expressing an opinion, which can be either agreement or distaste.

Sorry I'm late to reply to this- This is a horrible practice for anyone to use. I don't usually see the ratings because I just check the "what's new" tab, and it doesn't seem to show thread ratings. Usually the only time I've given them out is on the stories section or when I see a thread that has a really low rating for no apparent reason.

What is wrong with that person? I've never seen you be anything but supportive and fun on this site. Even if someone isn't supportive and fun, why take it out on them? Why not just ignore them???

I use it like Michelle said really, if a thread makes me smile or laugh or is thought-provoking then I rate it. I only give 3+ star ratings usually thought I have given a 1 star out for a thread I considered to be just rubbish basically, but it wasn't any of yours Luce

I think it's a decent enough system which some people seem to be using somewhat arbitrarily, what you're saying is a case in point, anyone asking for advice or support seems to get negative ratings which is frankly ludicrous in a place like this.

Tanja was browsing on here last night and I was sat beside her and I had to laugh when I saw someone had rated this thread as 5 stars given the nature of the first post
