This used to happen off and on at irregular times, but for the past few weeks it's been a constant thing.
Let me give a little background first so that this makes sense.
I live way out in the country, and the fastest internet available is my satellite internet connection. My provider is called Hughesnet. Hughesnet has a daily "download allowance", which basically means that I have a certain amount/percentage of bandwidth to use per day for uploading Youtube videos, uploading pictures onto the net, downloading internet programs, etc. If it gets VERY low or we use 100%, we are penalized by the internet running incredibly slow (if not at all) the following day or more. It's a stupid system.
I started Skyping with David at the beginning of August. At that time, I could talk to him for a large amount of time because typically it didn't use up much allowance, or hardly any. In fact, sometimes the percentage would go up while we would be on Skype. The only problem would be, understandably, that the internet was a bit slow for other computers in the house. We still have no explanation for this.
A couple weeks ago, lightening hit extremely close to our house (I'm still not convinced it didn't hit us), and fried the cable going from our computer to the satellite. We replaced it with a new one. Since replacing it, Skype now sucks up usage every single time we chat. This is becoming an EXTREMELY annoying problem, because it only gives us about an hour and a half to talk before I have to get off because of usage. We used to be able to talk for nearly 4 hours So, not only is it short but we're used to far longer periods of time.
I've emailed Skype about this problem, and pretty much they told me that there's nothing that can be done and I'm screwed. Hughesnet says it's a Skype problem. I'm inclined to think that it's the cable replacement that has caused this to happen since it started when we replaced it.
Anyway, my question is: Does ANYONE else have this problem?? Or know of any way to fix it? We haven't been able to think of any at all. We've also thought about it being something in Japan (where David is) that is causing the problem. But he never really has any issues like this.
I read posts of other people talking for hours upon hours with their SO's, even leaving Skype on and sleeping together, and to be quite honest it makes me incredibly envious. An hour and a half to talk is hardly enough time to get started for us It's getting more and more frustrating as time goes on, and I'm at my wits end.
If you have any advice... PLEASE help!
