It WAS always hard for me to describe how I met my SO for the first time and it can still be hard to express to some people because of where I live.

My Story
My SO and I met through old fashion AIM! His best friend (in Florida) and my best friend (in Oklahoma) met each other online somehow. They had been talking for weeks and decided to invite all of their friends into a big chatroom. There was about 20+ people in the room and everyone was talking at once. It was madness, so I decided to rest back and watch the conversation for entertainment.
However, as fate would have it, I saw a little window pop up on my monitor with a screen name I didn't know but recognized from the list in the large chatroom. I accepted the conversation and it goes, "My name is Marc. I'm Jason's best friend who knows your best friend. I noticed you weren't saying much so I decided we could talk since I can't talk in that chaos."
Boom. That is how we first met. It would be a few months before he gave me a sweet phone call, asking me if I would give this relationship a try and he knew it would be hard but that I was worth it to him.

However, with where I live and because we were both 13 (holy shit, we're 20 now), it clearly wasn't taken very lightly with MY parents. His parents didn't mind. However, my family ADORES his butt now lol we can't get rid of him

How did you first meet your SO?
◘ Online We were on playray.com playing minigolf.. and ended up going on the same game with two other players. We were the only ones talking (there's a chat in each room where you play) and had loads of fun and then Sam asked me to play alone.. with him and we did and it went from there to msn and.. yeah..

◘ ... ^ online We'd known each other a bit over a year before meeting for the first time, but we starting loving each other mooooonths before that.. not saying it to the other one at first.. we said we liked each other a lot but.. I was with someone else and so was he.. sorta, so it was complicated. Our anniversary is 4 months before the first time we met.. could be sooner too based on.. how we felt for each other

What did you think about a LDR?
◘ Don't really remember, didn't think much of it I guess. Just that it can and will work as long as we love each other as much as we do. Yeah, it's hard, especially if they're in a different country, thousands of miles away but it'll all be so worth it in the end.

How did you first meet your SO? Online? In person? We met online. We met on a game called IMVU. I had been looking up things to download for my sims game and saw IMVU advertised. I thought it would be fun to try out, even though I had never wanted to do any sort of online gaming system (thought it was a waste of time... but I was already playing the sims... so kinda the same thing. Or so I reasoned. ) I was a bit overwhelmed with the whole thing and after entering a few chat rooms, logged off and went back to sims. However a few days later I thought I'd give it another try. I logged on and went into a certain chatroom where, I learned later, Scott frequented almost daily. I had fun talking to the people in there. They were pretty much all "regulars" to the room. I decided to hang around. Scott singled me out. He came and sat with me and we started chatting. He was really funny and really sweet and there was a bit of flirtation going on there. At the end of the day I found I had truly enjoyed myself talking to this particular group of people and came back the next day. I soon became another "regular" and the rest is history.

For how long did you guys know each other before dating? We had been talking for about a month and a half when he asked me "to be his"

What did you think about a LDR? I didn't know how it was going to work out, but there was just this connection between us. I couldn't say no. I figured I would just go with my instinct and let the chips fall where they would. Here we are, 10 months later, and I'm so happy and so in love.

MSN classic rock chat room, it was a free for all, and I have many friends from that room still.

Online it was 12 years ago this month. Our first visit was in 2000, he spent 3 weeks here with me, and then 2 weeks in Kentucky with a friend, but I ended up going there to see him as well.
What did you think about a LDR?
OI! We both admitted to being in love with the other right after he left in 2001 but we both thought that an LDR couldn't work, so we decided to remain the platonic best friends we'd become over our 3 years online. We both then spent 8 years being best friends and miserable without each other, trying to make lives with other people that failed miserably, until we both realized we were IDIOTS! and became a couple it will be 4 years October 26th.

How did you first meet your SO?
I was introduced to him through his cousin when I was living in Mali, West Africa. We started talking every time I was over at their house and started taking late-night walks together.

In person. We knew each other about a month before we were officially dating.

What did you think about a LDR?
When I found out I had gotten this job I had wanted in France, I was excited and disappointed at the same time. I didn't want to leave but he encouraged me to because he knew it was important to me. I had been in an LDR before and it turned out badly so I have been quite impressed at how it's gone this time!

How did you first meet your SO? Online? In person? For how long did you guys know each other before dating?
We met online; through LiveJournal.com. I saw her username pop up quite a few times before we started typing to each other, but we never got in contact until she posted a fan fiction story one day. I enjoyed it and so I decided to leave a comment. She replied back. Only a few comments; nothing more. A few days later, on 03 September 2009, she was browsing a thread where I was typing with another user. She liked what she was reading and left a comment. I saw it and replied. We spent the whole night replying to each other's comments and it started from there...

We became "official" after two months of typing and talking to each other. It could have been way earlier, but we were too shy to talk about that topic.

What did you think about a LDR?
In the beginning? I don't even know. It was exciting at first because everything was so new, but the distance always annoyed me. I just wanted to be able to see her in person. To touch her. To kiss her. To go to the movies with her. To do all those normal things couples do when they have just started dating.

How did you first meet your SO?

I met him in the fall of 2004 on the site Gaia Online. I was involved in a roleplay and was just getting settled in (it had been running all of two months by now) when he joined because he knew the owner/DM and other players from other places. My first impression was he was a vastly superior writer and I hated it.

For how long did you guys know each other before dating?

7 years. Next month we'll have known each other 8 years.

What did you think about a LDR?

Honestly I always thought they were stupid and I never saw the point (I never knew anyone who ever met the people they dated before I came here) and after seeing my best friend go through 4 unsuccessful ones I was like, hell naw. But, when it's 4 am on a Sunday in February and you spent the last 6 hours flirting with a guy, you kinda can't say 'no' when he asks you out, especially when you've crushed on him for 6 of those 7 years.

How did you first meet your SO?
I was traveling around in Japan, where I each place stayed with Japanese families (homestay). In Miyazaki (in South Japan) I stayed in a elderly couple's home. Their son was home on vacation and ... yeah he was the one who ended up becoming my SO.

Well we knew each other around 2 weeks before we made a pass on each other. Shortly after I had to continue my travel though, but he told me he would come and visit me in Denmark (The same day I traveled home). We weren't officially dating though... which also made it awkward later on when tried to arrange to meet each other once again in Japan before I went home. Since I couldn't admit I missed him.
We actually didn't start officially dating before he came to Denmark and we discussed it. So maybe around 2 months, but we pretty much did what dating couples do, we just didn't label it.

What did you think about a LDR?
We both didn't really like that idea, which I think led is to not wanting to "label" our relationship. Maybe we both hoped we could play it casual, without any attachments. (Un)fortunately we did become strongly attached to each other. So we agreed that there was no way around it. We started calling each other girlfriend/boyfriend, admitted our feelings for each other and began our LDR.

He's good friends with my roommate's brother. I was introduced to him at the beginning of my junior year of college.

In person. We originally met in the brother's car, but I didn't really notice (I was more interested in talking to my roommates, as I hadn't seen them all summer), but we were introduced again at a football game the following week.

For how long did you guys know each other before dating?
About 3 months. We met in August 2008, started dating in November 2008.

What did you think about a LDR?
It wasn't an issue at the time, as we lived across the street from each other. However, 10 months into our relationship he went to study abroad in Spain, and we decided we'd make it, because it would only be for a year...and then shortly after he got back, he moved across the country. But we're making it work, because we know we can survive it. We've done it already!

At a halloween party, I was talking to people (hardly knew anyone there) and he apparently kept looking over and once I started talking to someone he knew, he came over to say hi to them... when really he just wanted to talk to me

In person. and we dated straight away- we've been pretty much inseparable since the moment we met. I think we finally put a label on it after I came back to the states after Christmas break, but we consider Halloween as our anniversary.

What did you think about a LDR?

At first I thought they were impossible, but as I fell more and more in love with him, it was the only option for me. There was no way I was going to end it. There was a lot of heartache before we came to that decision, mainly because he was putting his guards up and I thought he was going to break up with me, but it turned out he wanted to make this work too.

How did you first meet your SO?
Well I was a sexual predator on the internet, and he was a willing victim ;D. Actually we met on Gaia...through his ex...who he left for me XP. They were broken up at the time when we met though, and I had joined her guild. He saw I was an Obama supporter through my siggy and instantly wanted to talk when he was I was female (boy, was he in for a surprise ;D), and lived in the United States :P. My FAQ on my profile made him laugh. I'm teacupsue there by the way. Warning, not out on Gaia! I have family there! Anyway, we talked for a while, he got back together with his ex during that time, we fell in love regardless ;_;! So he confessed his feelings for me. Then we remembered he was already in a relationship @_@. So he ended it (and she forgave him for his lapse of ******ation thankfully), and we officially got together on August 16, 2008 :P. Then I remembered like a week later that a friend asked me out before then and I completely forgot ;_;! Don't judge me! You'd forget too if they didn't speak to you for about 2 weeks after asking you out! D:<

For how long did you guys know each other before dating?
Like...5 months. We fell pretty quickly for each other XP. When it's right, it's right :P.

What did you think about a LDR?
Well, this isn't really the first one I've been in >.>...<.<...>.>... It's just the first one I didn't cheat on my significant other in XP. It's his first :P. When we got together, we didn't even consider the distance xD. It didn't sink in for like two weeks :P. It was like "Fuck it, love is love! We're doing this shit no mater what! RAWR!"

How did you first meet your SO? Online? In person?
We met, quite ridiculously, through Yahoo! Answers. I can't believe I have to tell people that... I sometimes go on there when I'm bored, and one day an email dropped into my inbox thanking me for answering their question, it had helped. So I emailed back saying you're welcome, glad it helped etc. Then she emailed back, and I emailed back... then after a while we added each other on Facebook, and never stopped messaging each other.

For how long did you guys know each other before dating?
About a month. We reached the point where it was clear that if we were in the same place we would be dating, and so I put my cards on the table and said so, and that we needed to decide if we were going to see if we could make an LDR work. Which is when I started doing some research and found this place.

What did you think about a LDR?
I thought it was one of the most stupid decisions I had ever made. I kept saying to myself "this cannot possibly work". I was rather stressed about it for the first couple of days, and just really spent them trying to get used to the idea. It's been a gradual progression from deciding to give it a go, to figuring out how to actually go about it, to getting used to it and enjoying it. Each step has been sort of a 'try it and see', and that's still going on - including meeting in person. We're both, whilst really looking forward to it, treating it as something of a 'well, let's give it a try, and make the next decision afterwards' sort of deal.

How did you first meet your SO?
Fall of 1996. My mom and his mom are good friends. He and I went to the same high school, but I was a freshman (14) and he was a senior (18). I had a crush on him, but he was older and wouldn't give me the time of day because he thought it would be weird to date someone so young. He graduated, we lost touch, and then when I was about 20 or so, we became email penpals due to our moms giving our emails out to one another. That lasted until I was 21 and met another guy who I eventually married. He met someone a few years later and got married to her. We both got divorced. He joined facebook in May of 2010 and I friended him and we started messaging and texting constantly. He came to visit me in mid-June 2010.


Online? In person? For how long did you guys know each other before dating?
In person. We knew each other 14 years before we started dating on June 19, 2010. We basically knew it was meant to be, so we didn't waste any more time making it official.

What did you think about a LDR?
If I look at it in a temporary manner, as something that won't last forever, I am sort of cool with it. I guess there wasn't really any doubt in my mind that we wanted to be together, so we just had to give the LDR a chance. It is working so far, but I admit I go borderline insane sometimes!

-I might my boyfriend online in a chat room There were so many people in the chat room so I decided to look at the boys' profile's and message them. Well, no luck, no cute guys to be found! (well none that I was attracted too) But then Ryan got in the chat room and I saw his picture and my mouth dropped, I private messaged him, and that is where the magic began!

-We knew each other about 4 months before dating. He kept asking for us to be serious but I wasn't ready for that yet, until Christmas of 2008.

-I'm not a big fan of the distance and either is he. But if that's what we have to do to be with one another, then that's what we have to do Our relationship is amazing, no one gets me like he does and visa versa. So the distance isn't that bad because we know we'll be together in a few years when the time is right
