Well, my plane touched down three hours ago, and now I'm sat at my office at work, where nobody knows that I went to another continent over the weekend. How very surreal it feels.
So, how did it go? Well, I suppose I ought to explain what led me to make such a spontaneous trip first: we've had a number of near break-ups over the last couple of weeks, which neither of us have actually wanted to happen, but we've both almost done it in the name of making things easier on the other, worries about the distance and so forth (the fact that we'd never actually met in person has given us both plenty of doubts as well), all wrapped up with a few big personal difficulties... anyway, on Tuesday, she said "I wish it wasn't so expensive, then we could just meet for a day or two to see how we do in person". And once that had been said, I knew I had to do it.
So, how did it go? Well, I had a really fun time, and she's great. We spent all of Saturday hanging out, initially just the two of us, then we met up with one of her friends, and then later her brother. She showed me around her town and her college, we went out into a nature reserve for a bit, went out for dinner... but then in the evening she was starting to feel somewhat unwell, so I told her to drop me off at my hotel and go to bed, so we could spend Sunday together nice and refreshed.
Unfortunately, she got really sick, sick enough that I wasn't going to hear of her trying to do anything other than rest. So Sunday got cancelled, I headed to the airport, and here I am.
So a great Saturday, but then fate was against us. Which is all a bit of a pain, because the time we were supposed to spend just the two of us (which was sort of the point of going) was taken away from us. I'm really glad I went, I'm really glad to have met her, and I know she really enjoyed it as well. It's just a shame it was cut quite so short - and she's going to be feeling really guilty about that, despite it not remotely being her fault. Now we just have to figure out where we go from here...
Apologies for the lack of photos - my camera's cacked up I'm afraid.
