Oh geez. I completely understand why you're so angry. Drunk driving is one of the things that pisses me off more than almost anything, since it isn't just one life at risk, but of perfectly innocent people as well.
I think you two will have to have a very serious discussion once the friend is gone, and you'll have to spell it out for him.
I'm sorry that he did this. I hope he understands what a huge deal it is.

Wow that is incredibly stupid of him. I know people who've driven drunk and seem to think it's no big deal "if you only drive home"... but what they don't seem to understand is they could kill someone and themselves because it only takes a second to lose control of your car.
I'm sorry he's done this but I'm glad he's ok... and I really hope that after you've told him off he promises to never ever do it again. *hugs*

I would be pretty pissed too. eEspecially since the only way you would be notified of his untimely death if one were to occur, would be through facebook. I say just tell him that in a situation like his, unnecessary risks are amplified to the extreme. mostly because you can't be there to stop him if he were to do something stupid. You should let him now how upset you truly are when his friend is gone, definitely.

I've heard from Brandon's friends that before he met me like all summer he was drunk driving people all over the place because everyone wanted to party and noone wanted to be a DD, so since he was the best driver they thought it was kind of like a compromise or something :P He promises never to do it again, though.

In the end, all that matters is that nothing happened, and he's okay.
It wasn't smart of him to do it, hopefully he'll remember for next time.
He knows already that you aren't pleased with him. I wouldn't advise going off on him about it because he was drunk at the time and if anything it may very well turn into a nasty argument. If I were you I would explain how upset you were by it, and try to keep your ground at the same time. You're angry because something could have happened and you wouldn't have known..this could also be your chance to explain to him how much he means to you and how you couldn't live if you lost him.
In time, this will all settle down, and you'll be able to move on.

Jeez... I'd be furious as well
Drunk driving truly pisses me off.. They all think they're the world's best drivers... until something awful happens and they not only hurt themselves but other innocent people as well..
I've even come across a few men that brag about being better drivers when intoxicated than sober.. I just feel like slapping them so hard...
And when it's someone you love, it really sets off a series of "what if...." scenarios.. sorry for your worries, nicole
At least he's okay
I really hope he won't ever pull a stunt like that again..

It would have made me upset too...and I have known my SO since we were kids!! He knows my views on driving under the influence. I'm probably worse than normal for two reasons...I grew up in an alcoholic household and I worked in a trauma center for over ten years and I have witnessed the devastations of drunk driving first hand! I can totally relate to mind-messing with yourself and picturing all that could go wrong..I'm so guilty of that too!
Thankfully, he's okay and made it home safely. I would try to not beat him up too much over it, but make your distaste known and then let it go. No sense in it ruining your weekend!!!

I agree. You have stated your feelings...now you need to let it go. Point is taken and he knows how you feel. We can't control what our SO's do..believe me I have tried...and it came across to my ex that I was playing Mom. Just my thoughts. My parents were in a very bad accident involving a drunk driver so I do understand the dangers....

I'd be furious and raging too! What if he got hurt? Or worse? How would you know? You can't go sit beside him in the hospital!
I try to take better care of myself because I know if I got hurt, he couldn't be around.
Your SO needs to realize how much he means to you. The best way I get this across is to write a really sad letter one night when I'm upset and pour out my feelings. That way he has no chance to interrupt and can really absorb it.Kristen & Ryan - Together since October 2008

I would've flat out lost it if I were in your shoes. One time when Enrique was 19 he went out drinking with friends and I almost flat-out dumped him that night for drinking underage. My situation is a bit different though. Just a few months ago my mom almost got herself and a family of four killed in a DUI (almost! It made her stop drinking thankfully), and I had only been sober for a few months and I expected him to do the same for me since he was the only reason I was sober.
I still haven't let it go, and it was almost a year ago. I have a bad history with drunk driving though, and everyone I know is aware. I remember one time when I was 5, my father was driving us back to Northern California from Mexico. I had a really bad headache, so my mom kind of had me on her lap. My father decided on purpose to piss her off and started getting drunk. The shouting match didn't help the headache. We were only going 5 mph (bad traffic) and he ended up crashing with the woman in front of us, shattering her windshield. I hurt my neck pretty badly and passed out waiting for the ambulance. He has a habit of doing that to us... Actually he had a habit of giving me neck injuries now that I think about it.
That's not the point, the point is that you need to punch him. I don't normally advocate domestic violence, but considering he could've gotten someone else killed I would considered a pretty benign punishment. After that...not sure. I honestly don't know where to go from there. That's a flat out deal breaker for me and I wouldn't even consider a casual acquittance after an incident like that. Like I stated before though, I got major issues with DUIs. Tell him some random tranny from the internet will find and beat him with a stick if he does it again :P.

Hi! I agree that what he did is really stupid, This is a video that really changed my life. It's very graphic, but tell him to watch it all the way to the end. Also tell him it could be him if he does it. I hope this helps.
