Sooooo I flew to Finland on 5th December hoping to stay and move (t)here forever..
There is a language course I need to be on that starts Jan 10th 2011, so we needed to get things moving asap for it to be possible for me to attend the course.
To stay in Finland more than 3 months you need a 'right of residence'. To get this you need one of 3 things. A load of money, a job or a Finnish husband/wife..
Tuesday December 7th (national holiday in Finland on the 6th so I couldnt do it then) I called up about some job. It's not the best job, but it's only 2 days a week, and meant I could not only get the permit but (because of getting the permit) go on the language course and stay forever..
The woman asked if I could start the following day (Wed 8th). Great!
We also met Andy and Tanja on the 7th
On the evening of the 7th a work contract arrived at my door which I could take with my application for the residence
Soooooo on Thursday we went for it. Nervously took the application to the police and were told we'd have to wait 1 week. That's not what we needed.. having to nervously hang around waiting for the decision x)
Elina's roommate wasnt exactly jumping around at the idea of me staying there with her and Elina, so we looked for an apartment for the two of us. We found a nice one not far from her old one and still in the centre of the city. We took it.
If my application didnt get accepted I'd just live with her there and we'd get probably get married after a year or something *shrug*
Just over a week of waiting had passed and it was last Saturday (18th). We were moving to our first home together One very long day later we spent our first night (t)here, boxes all over the place
The past two days have just been unpacking and waiting for the phone to ring.
Finally, just under 2 weeks after I applied, I got the call this morning and was told I got the permit ^______^
We rushed to the police office to get the permit and a few other things sorted.
Once we got back we hung the last few things on the wall and here I am. An official Finnish resident sat in his Finnish home with his amazing Finnish love next to him
I'm happy..
..as am I This is Elina talking now
Woah.. has it been a haaaard few months. We've been doing loads and loads of research regarding all this and it's been a bit of a pain in the ass with getting different information from.. everywhere basically. Finally we were able to figure out what we have to do and did it and it got good
It all happened sorta fast (deciding that he moves to Finland before Christmas etc) but I'm so glad it happened now. We were both miserable without each other. I love him so much.. and living with him feels pretty good ♥ We're happy ^_^
Here's another picture of our new flat.. it's ours.. and we think it looks lovely
And we'd both like to say thanks to everyone for the support given to us here and we'll stick around for sure
