Poll: What type of LDR are you in?

Tonight, I was reading an article about different types of LDRs (https://ldr-insight.org/2010/05/five...w-they-differ/). The language is a little confusing so I added a description for each. Also, lengthier descriptions can be found on the website I listed.

I am curious to know what type of LDR most people on here have!


1. Initial and Continuing Distance--relationship is initiated over a long distance and continues over a long distance

2. Short-Term Close Proximity and Continuing Distance--relationship is initiated close distance for a short period of time (3 months in another state for a job and you met someone while there, etc.) and continues over a long distance

3. Long-Term Close Proximity and Continuing Distance--relationship is initiated close distance for a long period of time and then continues at a distance

4. Continuing Close Proximity and Short-Term Intermittent Distance--relationship is initiated and usually close distance but couple is apart intermittently over short time periods (ex. summers)

5. Continuing Close Proximity and Long-Term Periodic Distance--relationship is initiated and usually is close distance but couple is apart for a long-term period for whatever reason (ex. one partner is pursuing a job opportunity elsewhere)

6. Initial Distance and Continuing Close Proximity (what we all strive for!!)--relationship was once long distance but later turned into close distance

7. Other--if your LDR does not seem to fit into any of these categories!

It started and is still continuing at the same distance.

I found this kind of confusing, but I think after reading the article, I'm the third one. We're both in college, and he goes 360 miles away from home, and comes home every few months for breaks from school.

I voted "other" because our situation is strange. We started out long distance, but we're together as much as we're apart. Usually 3 weeks long distance, then three weeks together... and we have plans to close the distance before the summer.

It started long distance and will continue to be long distance for another four months!

uh I put other, we met close distance at work but we worked two separate areas of the company both traveling positions (often in opposite directions) so we were close and yet distance? but we're from different provinces.

Mine is sort of other lol We met in the same college and actually live close to each other, but by the time I asked him out, I wasn't going to college any more and he spends most of his time up there (even summers) so I asked him out from a distance and we continue to be ld. Hopefully that'll change in the fall.

CD for 4 years, and LD for 1.5 already...

I think I'm a 2? We met in person twice (first because my mom introduced us and second because my mom and I visited Paris and stayed with him while he was living there). Only after that did we start flirting online. But we didn't start a relationship until after we saw each other in person again.

The categories are a bit confusing...

I think I'm 5 (Continuing Close Proximity and Long-Term Periodic Distance)

We started off close distance and then I had to leave for a 9 month period for a work contract.

Definitely 2, which is what has made it really hard in my mind! We met while I was studying abroad for a semester in Beijing, and now I have to be back longterm to continue things like networking, classes, and internships mostly here. Between now and law school I have definite plans for another summer in Beijing intensive Chinese language(even before meeting him, I wanted to). And maybe now because of him-some kind of year long arrangement for research or something.

Otherwise, forseeable facetime is going to be so little. T____T

Number 6 :P. I moved and he's over there now *pointing across the street*
