Get a guidebook or weather station from that area and research what the conditions are like - use that to determine clothing you're taking.
I did the opposite - the weather in the US where I was at was fairly cold, but in Oz the weather's quite warm to hot, even if it's more 'temperate'. It just requires some forethought into clothing.
