We used to know we use each others first names and pet names interchangeably. Pet names are definitely used more often though than full names. I sometimes call him by his last name preceded by mister and he uses miss and my last name. I can't wait until I'm his mrs. though :-) I love all of the creative nicknames! I have one for him but he has yet to come up with one for me. He sticks with the usual pet names which is ok for now I guess.

I don't like saying his name because even I can hear how "white" I sound saying it LOL.
Miguel Angel is surprisingly hard for me to pronounce, and I don't like saying it wrong... :$

I do not know about americans, but I know many Russian girls when they really like the guy and are serious about him, do not talk about him much and do not even introduce him to her female friends and such...I guess it is sort of the same thing. I too rarely call my SO by name. I call him by the pet name I created for him and yes with my female and male friends I say "my boyfriend". When i call my boyfriend by name it usually means I am not happy with him and I am serious about whatever I am saying. Same goes for him: he calls me by name when he is not happy with me and is upset OR when he is telling somebody something about me. Actually he only started calling me by name when talking to others about me after 2 of his friends called me my pet name that he calls me coz they hear him calling me that and they just automatically did also. That is when he was like "Waaait a minute! Only I can call her that!"

I always seem to go for guys with weird names. My ex was Sicilian. His full name was Calogero (Cal-oog-eh-roh) with the r rolled, but I cant roll my R's so I always sounded like the most awful londoner! he's shortened version is Lillo as in Lee-lo as opposed to Lilo in the Disney film! Lol.

My SO's name is Codaniel. Its not a difficult name - exactly how its spelt but it really confuses people. It especially pisses us off when people spell it Co-Daniel or CoDaniel even when we specifically tell them otherwise.

For a long time he was "Cody" but he changed back to Codaniel when he turned his life around. As a result I'm one of the very few people who doesnt refer to him as Cody - which I really like

I've recently noticed that, when talking to him, I basically never use his name.. I say 'honey' or 'baby' instead Feels sort of strange using his name for some reason O_o
I guess he rarely calls me by my name either when he's talking to me.. except for when we're uhm.. you know which is kinda hot

I don't have a problem with saying his name when talking to other people though, I like his name

Whenever I call my SO by name he says it makes it sound like he's in trouble! So, I guess I don't use it often enough, but it's not deliberate.

Hah, this thread is great... When I first started talking to her, it turns out I was actually pronouncing her name wrong all this time! She said she did not care and most people said it wrong. She was so used to hearing it either way but I told her I wanted to say it properly... I mean it is her name! But for the longest time I would dodge it if I could. Just because it was still the default to mispronounce it and for a while, when I did say it I would be telling myself in my head "say it right..." that it would feel so forced. Now I don't even think about it but it toke a long time to get to this point. Though I still think I am pronouncing it more as it is spelt but the English language is strange like. WTF silent letters!!

When we talk on aim he'll say babe or mi mnmz. I call him babe too or my leonsito, or my stalker. I just cant get myself to say outloud his name...it feels like i were saying you-know-who's name! (if ur a potter fan u'll know wat i mean lol) I tried saying his name outloud...but I feel funny...I get butterflies lol

Yeah, I have a funny accent even though English is my first language. I speak Mandarin a lot as well and often mix up the grammar of the two languages. Because of this, when I was first in the US, I was very nervous about talking to people (placing an order at a restaurant, asking for help in a store, etc.). But my boyfriend refused to talk for me, forcing me to just make do with my accent and get comfortable with talking. Some people, especially teenagers, I noticed speak a lot faster and it's hard for me to understand them sometimes. I'm supposed to call his parents, and elder sister by name too, but I'm so worried about pronouncing it wrong or making it sound funny with my accent that I avoid saying their names as much as possible. /:

I still catch myself saying to people that dont know him..."my boyfriend" but to the people that do know me pretty well or him I use his name. Its odd sometimes because you dont know what to use sometimes in conversation. I think that you would be used to saying his name and stumble on saying "boyfriend" when you talk about him or to him, because the title of the relationship is sometimes new to say for people. Names should always be said. You should say his name when you talk to him, makes him feel like you are recognizing him specifically.

Phew I'm glad my SO and I aren't alone in this! We almost never call each other by our first names, usually because we never have a reason to. We each have a variety of nicknames that we use to address each other instead because, for me anyway, it feels very awkward, almost too formal, to address him by his name. His family can call him by his name, I'll call him one of the million nicknames I have saved just for him . One of the only times I had to call him by name was when we were about to get separated in a huge, busy crowd at a Tube station in London, so I yelled it pretty loud to get his attention. Otherwise, I only say his name to tease him because of the way it sounds in my abrasive accent, and he says mine because he knows it makes me giggly.

Indeed, it feels awkward to say my SO's name esp if I talk about him to my friends or family.
Dunno if he feels the same.

Haha, I love this. I always feel super weird saying my boyfriend's name too. I normally just call him baby or some other pet name. I'm not sure if he feels the same way, but I imagine he does because I've heard him say my name maybe twice haha.
