I did this all the time at the beginning of our relationship. I was talking to my really good friend a few weeks into dating my SO and referred to him by his name and my friend responded with "So that's his name?!" I didn't even realize how often I referred to him as "my boyfriend," or "the guy."

For the longest time it felt weird to call him by his first name. He always goes by his last name so before we got together so it was felt awkward for me. Now it's better, but I only say his first name occasionally when I'm talking to him. If I'm talking to other people about him it's his last name or just my boyfriend.

hahahaha! lol
I've wondered that sometimes... i feel weird when i call him by his name.. but thats because im always calling him "honey, baby, darling, my love, cutie pie, sweetheart etc..." so i dont really say his name that often... specially before we got engaged and all.. because now all of my family asks me every day "how's john?" lol so i've gotten a bit more used to it.
Yet i never go like "John, lets play WoW" lol.. i always call him some sort of endearment, and doing that for instance, does make me feel weird.
Also when we argue and i dont really feel like calling him any cute names because he's being mean lol i still feel weird calling him john.. but what else am i going to call him? :P lol

We rarely call each other by our names. Extremely rarely. Partially because we don't like the short version of eath other's name, and using the full name sounds too formal. But now I think of it, I rarely called my ex my his name either, and I was fine with the shorter version of his name, and it awlays felt really weird when he called me by my name, At the end of the day, I guess when it comes to a relationship I perfer endearment names (dear, darling, honey, babe/baby, etc'), using them as well as being called by them.

but alone, is or Sweetie, or Schatz, or Zuckerchen, or Babaca (babaca means stupid in portuguese, but we say it in a loving way. <3).
when he calls me "Uila" (my name), I know i did something he didn't like and we will have a serious talk. wether it is me walking out without a scarf when is cold or something silly like that.our story.

i can relate i love my boy's name to death: Nathanial <3 but i tend to call him sexy, or just not address him by anything when we talk, or refer to him simply as "nat" when he comes up in conversation with friends (or my aussie friend if i don't want them to know anything lol)
trying to warm up to saying it more often, just because its a fun name though haha

I was similar at the start of our relationship. It still feels a bit odd to a degree, actually. I'm not sure if that's just because I call him "dear" often or if it's because the only other Coreys I've met in the past were kinda pigs... I'm sure everyone can relate to a name kinda changing in feeling because you knew someone by that name in the past. Though, my Corey has redeemed the name, I'm happy to say.

I do! Also, I have a hard time typing her name as well...I just refer to her as "my girlfriend" or "my girl." It's not just her; I do it for everyone and I don't know why, to be perfectly honest. I think it's because there's so many ways to say her name, that I'm worried they'll use one of the other ways to spell it (e-y instead of a-y) and it'll just cause confusion.National Novel Writing Month Participant- 2010, 2011, 2012

Yes, I did feel awkward saying his name out loud at the very beginning of our relationship. First, back then I wasn't (obviously) used to using a foreign name daily, and second, the relationship itself was very new and I felt slightly uneasy about it as not everyone knew about it... Now his name is my favourite collection of letters to pronounce (or type or write) though.

I call my SO by her name often enough when we're talking, but when we chat I normally shorten it by using pet names(Hun, babe, hey you). She uses mine often enough, but I'm sure that we'll both use it more often when we're out together. When we're on skype, we're the only two there so we don't really need to say each others names that often.
I did meet her through a friend in World of Warcraft and for the longest time we called each other by our character names. As time when on, it was a mix of both real and character names and before we stopped playing it was real names on ventrilo until there was an unknown person there, then it was back to character names.

I don't say my SO's name all that much. When we're together I call his attention with darling, honey etc. If I'm talking about him to acquaintances I tend to say "my boyfriend" but with close friends and family I do refer to him by his name. I can't pronounce it with a proper French accent though which kind of bugs me - and don't even get me started on his surname!

I totally did not call him by his first name (and still feel a little awkward saying it :P). When we first started dating, all my friends and family knew him as the "British guy". LOL
Edited to add: but now that I think of it, when we're in person, I do say his name. It feels even weirder saying "baby or honey" even though that's what I call him when we chat. Lol...
