Need some afvice on what to do!!!

right i need advice on this people, especially those who have done this before. The more i think about it the more frusterated i get. as you all know im doing the visiting marriage/civil partnership visa and i have to re apply as i was rejected mainly for financial reasons, they tend to get a little bit more suspicious of you if you wanna stay for 6 months even though you can, which confuses me more! when i reapply for this i have to show them that i am gonna leave the UK and come back to the US now if i wanna stay for 6 months i have to quit my job which is the main thing they look for as a tie to the US, now problem is in a few months Christmas and New Years is coming up and spending that time together means alot to the both of us, and spending those two months followed by getting married would be amazing, problem is if we went that route and didnt see each other until December then it would be 12 months until we last saw each other and i would have to wait a little longer to close the distance and if i left in September ans stayed for 2 months we wouldnt see each other for Christmas, trying to get answers on the other visa message board is confusing and frusterating me more and can someone give me advice if i stay for 6 months on how to convince them that i will return the US because apparently i have to do that as well, advice please!

    Caitlin,
I just need a bit clarification: would not having a return ticket or itinerary not be enough proof for them?

most likely, but they tell you not to book your flight until you hear back from them, but maybe thats what i need to do in order to get them to believe me that i'll come back. i sent them a itinerary thing once already but apparently they didnt believe i'll go back to the US

I think having a return ticket would be vital, even if it means you have to switch some dates around in the end. Most likely, they are looking for a "tie" to your home country- a bank account w/savings, property, a business, a stable job. For the job situation, is there anyway your current employer could draft you a letter stating the job will be yours once you return to the US? Even if you are indeed having to quit now, your employer might understand how impt. having the proof of employment link is once you return.

I know you wrote that you don't want to do a shorter visit, but it seems to me that that's the only option you have.
That way you can keep your job, return to it and save up more money to eventually close the distance. If I recall correctly than you were going on a 6 month visit now, return to the US and then apply for a permanent visa and close the distance, right?
So you'd have some more saving up to do, when you come back. That'll be a lot easier with a job already lined up. I don't know what you're working, but finding a job is almost never easy. If you had to look for a job after you returned, you'd most likely lose a few week's pay at least.
Could you move your stuff and find someone for your apartment, while you're on your visit? It'll get a extra money.

It's obvious that you need to save up more money. As I understand it (and I don't know much about visas, so someone correct me if I'm mistaken), to get a visa you mainly need to prove that you can support yourself for the time of the visit. Which is actually logical, seeing as you're not allowed to work over there.
I guess that's also why it is more difficult to get the visa when you say from the beginning that you want to stay for 6 months. I mean consider how much money you need each month and that times 6. That's probably a rough idea, of what you're looking at.

Yeah, I agree. I would just do a shorter visit (even if that means no Christmas or New Year's Eve together) because a shorter visit is better than no visit at all and you would have time to save up some money before reapplying again.

yeah i know at some point im gonna create a budget to show them i can stay for 4-6 months, while its gonna be a daunting task im gonna have to do it if that doesnt work and im still denied then im gonna have to go for the 2 month route

I am so sorry to hear you going through all of this, but I am glad you are looking at the options of providing a budget. I know how much you both want to spend the holidays together, so I will hope the budget works too. It is so scary how a decision can be in the way of being with a loved one, but thankfully there is still the option of a shortened visit. Still there is time.

Wishing you both best of luck...

This isn't what you want to hear but it's the way I'd do it.

I would, personally, skip the visit, save the money and focus on closing the distance. I know it's hard to hold the goal in mind and just keep working working working but from what you've said here many times you don't have the money or the personal skills required to manage your money to just pull this off without compromising your future with your wife. You don't want both of you to be shitbagger-broke... you want a future, a real future together, and sometimes to do that you need to pull back, conserve your resources... you know?

yeah i know, and thats why i decided to do a different visa which will make us close the distance this year! other people kept suggesting it but me being stubborn and i wanting to see her badly was clouding my better judgement so if all goes according to plane with this visa, this October we'll close the distance and in November we'll get married

My vote would be for skipping visiting and focusing on closing the distance. Having the little bit extra money when closing the distance would be a good idea. The visa situation is tricky. I'm here in the US on the visa waiver, since I'm not done with my schooling documents yet. But when I bought my ticket I bought a round trip with the return just before the 90 day mark since a one way ticket costs as much as a round trip and so I have proof of return so they don't ask questions. In this period of time I will be filling in the forms I need to fill in and submitting whatever else they need from me to get the student visa.

I hope your visa application is successful and everything works out for you guys eventually!

How strange that your legally allowed to stay that length but they are reluctant to let you.

Can you arrange to start a course on your return? ANY course at all just to give you something to come back to? Is your lease due to expire or anything as resigning that would should be a big enough commitment to return. The only other thing would be to have interviews set for when you return but thats a long shot.
Best i can suggest is to think of anything you can book in advance of your return and sending that, maybe a holiday inside the U.S. Make as many plans on paper for your return and send everything.
Really sorry i can't help more than that i really hope you can get the 6 month visit
