How long did it take you to meet your SO for the first time?

To those of you who met on the internet or through some other non-physical means before you met in real life, how long did it take you to meet for the first time? If you haven't met yet, do you have a plan for when?

I've known my aussie for over three years and we haven't met for the first time yet >> but there might be a plan to meet sometime next year; every relationship is different, i'm just curious how long anyone's gone on with their relationship without meeting, because it seems like everyone else has plans that don't take 4 years << i might be a tinsy bit jealous

My SO and I met online. I visited her four (almost five) months later. We were lucky: I had the money and we both had the time.

My SO and I met online in March 2009 and met for the first time 2 years later. The first year we were just friends and talked casually here and there. Once we became a couple and had dated for a year then we met!

We've known each other three years, but the first two were just friends... After the official couple-i-ness, 8 months. He was just here at the beginning of June for two weeks, and will hopefully be back at the end of the year or the beginning of next year.

Well I've had feelings for my boyfriend since the winter of 2009, and wanted to meet during the summer of 2009, which didn't work out. His feelings for me progressed, and we tried to meet in the winter of 2010, but he didn't get the time off work ... we finally met in April of 2011 when we made our relationship official.

So I guess it took a year and a half, but during that time neither of us had made a commitment to each other although for about a year of that neither of us dated.

ETA: We had been talking for at least 8 months before I had feelings for him...

We didn't meet online, but through work, we're on the same team only in different countries. We were friendly for about three years, then started chatting outside of work. From then, it took 7 months to meet in person, it would have been sooner, but it was a really busy period in work and we had to wait awhile before taking vacation.

I honestly don't know how you guys who wait years to meet do it! You're stronger than me, I wouldn't be able to. Respect!

For me the wait was easy because I didn't have to wait. At any moment I could have chosen to go out with someone else but I decided that this man was special enough to wait for. I had a deadline though, and if we hadn't met by June of this year (so this month) I was simply going to start dating again and move on.

But we still would have been friends of course.

wayyyy longer than I wanted it to be but there were money issues and parental issues we had to avoid :/

We met online, and our first visit was 2 days short of our first year anniversary and lasted for three weeks. We moved extremely fast after that and closed the distance 5 months after our first visit.
