I really couldn't care less if my parents approved or not. My father is an ass and doesn't get a vote anyway, and my mother married the ass, so that kinda proves her inability to pick a proper mate (they're divorced, thankfully).
And yes, I'm an adult, so I would go see them. If I was a minor then no, I'd have to wait it out.

My parents hate him and disapprove of the relationship, because he's shorter than me, does not speak english, and is not in mine or similar to mine's career field(read: lawyer, doctor, engineer). Initially I broke up with him because of it because prior to that my parents had never disapproved of anything, and I naively believed they would continue to do the same. Then I got back together once I realized how easy this was to hide. He's kind of in a different country, so I can't plan my own visits. But next year I'm applying for a round of scholarships that will give me every reason to go where he is.

Thankfully my mom does approve of my relationship. Perhaps things would have been different if I had met him online or something of the sort, but we met in person and dated for a little bit before having to go off to college. I don't know exactly what I would do if she didn't though. I don't think I would, but I know it would certainly add an unnecessary strain.
