Well I haven't had to yet. I'm not saying I wouldn't under certain circumstances, but I would hope it wouldn't come to that point.

I really don't like the idea of giving ultimatums, except in extreme circumstances as many people have said. I'd like to think my SO and I could work issues out as they come up... If there was ever an issue that he wasn't willing to work with me on, I'd likely question our relationship before going to an ultimatum.

It's hard for me to think of an ultimatum as anything but emotional blackmail. As a matter of course, I'm against them. However I'm not so naive as to think they are never needed. But I would only use one as a last resort, and only if our relationship was on the line, or for a serious health issue (drugs, risking his or my health, etc).

My SO has actually given me a "half-ultimatum". He said if we weren't planning on getting married at the end of school(masters for him, bachelor for me), he wants to know now. He says he just can't go more than six years of dating without...well....*cough cough wink wink*. I didn't really want to get married right out of school, but dating and extra four years ontop of six does seems a little silly. I can't ask him to wait that long so I agreed. I don't want to lose him over something like that
