i guess it would depend on the name and that...i trust my girlfriend totally...but some things i can see making me uncomfortable...as for me...pretty much all of my best friends are women....it's always been that way...i just think they understand me better...i am a pretty a emotional kind of guy...and other guys don't like to talk about problems and stuff like that normally...so i tend to call those friends closest to me hun..or sweetie...stuff like that...but if she asked me not to...i would stop...i guess it's just the way i am...i thought this was actually gonna ask what names others have had for you...like most of my close friends call me D...or big d...or shaggy....my nieces have always called me uncle d...and one of them has just started college and the other is a senior in high school...i actually kinda like it...lol

I call all of my sorority sisters "darlin" and a few people tend to call me "hun." As long as it's not a guy that hits on me all the time, he's cool with it.

I would be uncomfortable with someone calling either of us "baby" or "babe". There is a guy at work who calls me "hun" sometimes, but I am pretty sure he uses that for a lot of females, so it doesn't really bother me. One of my girlfriends and I call each other "love" or "sweetie" and I don't think that's a problem because it's just out of friendship - nothing going on there! My female boss calls me "dear".
I really think it depends on the person, situation, context, etc. as other people have said. If some chick were calling my fiance a petname, but not using it for any other guys, I would have a problem. It also depends on their age. I know a lot of older people who call younger people "hun" or "dear" because they maybe think of them like kids.

Definitely depends on the situation, who the person is in relation to me/my SO, what the name is, etc. I'm not a huge pet name person, and neither is my SO, but we tend to be with each other. I don't have many guy friends, and all of my closest girl friends use "hun" and "sweetie" with me all the time, and my SO doesn't really use those names.
Actually, the other day, I was working with someone who sits next to me in one of my classes, and he called me "love." It made me feel very uncomfortable and I asked him to stop it because 1) the guy doesn't use pet names often, and 2) that is the one pet name my SO calls me all the time, and it is reserved just for him. I almost feel like I overreacted, but I just didn't like it in the slightest.

I only let my boyfriend call me "baby" or "babe", because I don't want to be anyone else's babe, but some older admins I work with in a gaming community call me "hun" or "darling", which is fine with my boyfriend and me.
I think it should be an agreement between you and your SO - if he/she doesn't like it, you shouldn't let other people call you anything he/she is uncomfortable with.
