Dating someone to get a green card

I just wanted to vent my frustrations a little bit. I'm sure you guys can relate.

There's this girl from Russia that I'm friends with here at school. She's very friendly and very cool, but she's been dating this guy from around here for a few years now and the relationship has totally turned to crap. Turns out she's just dating him so they can get married and she can get a green card and stay in the US, which is why they're still together.

And people tell ME to "make sure he's not using you for a green card!"

Sorry to hear that. But honestly, I don't care. As long as the USA government approves my relationship as valid I don't care how other people use the system. It's not like they'll make it less hard to get visas anytime soon. So... whatever.

They don't just give out green cards to anyone to marries a national. It takes a lot of effort and if they are able to get past all the proof of relationship interviews and junk then great. I don't know what it is like for the states but even if you get permission to stay after getting married if the government finds out you are no longer with that person your permission is revoked. I wouldn't want to live in Russia...
