Use credit card for flight? Ignorant about this :(

I have a credit card that I use to pay my internet bill. I pay it in full every month. My credit limit is plenty and more than enough to pay for my plane ticket. BUT, there's no way I could pay it back in full when I get back. It would take me months to pay it off.

I'm getting my ticket on Feb. 19th to fly out March 30th. I will get a bill before I leave. Would they cancel my ticket if I didn't pay the bill in full? I really don't know anything about this!

It would depend upon the conditions for late payments. I couldn't say anything else without more information.

My guess would be they wouldn't. If they did it for plane fare, they'd have to do it for other purchases and there's no way they could control for that if it were something more tangible. What will happen is you will likely be charged interest (this will depend on your card/rate plan, however) and your credit will probably be effected, depending on how long you need to pay it off. My rule of thumb is don't charge anything to the card I would not be able to pay for the following billing cycle when it's due, especially not large purchases, and if that were ever to happen, always be able to make more than the minimum payment due each month, even if it's $1. But no, I don't believe any credit card company has the authority to actually cancel your ticket.

I wouldn't be paying late, I would just be paying what I could each month and it would be more than the minimum as I'd want to pay it off soon as possible.

I wonder if I should apply/get another credit for this purpose so I don't mess up my credit line with the one I've been with for years?

No they wouldn't cancel your ticket. Credit card companies live off of people not being able to pay more then the minimum each month, they is how they make their money. You will have to pay a small amount of interest but there will be no penalty for not paying it off all at once. It will not mess up your credit one bit.

You'll be fine I've never paid for my flights in full right away.

Nope, that's actually what your credit card company WANTS you to do That's how they make money, by charging interest on the unpaid balance each month. As long as you pay at least the minimum balance due each month, you're in great shape, and once you've bought something, they can't cancel it anyway.

Oh okay! Sorry, I misunderstood that you would have to be paying late.

Also, no need to apply for a different credit card (I've actually heard this can mess with your credit, but that's only hear say), especially since I was under the impression your line of credit is attached to your name, not one individual card. It should be fine using the one you have! Have fun!
