This is happening to me with English, I'm doing an internship in Chile and everything is just so horrible (i'm currently in the states visiting and really noticing the issues). I don't speak any spanish so doing things is a challenge. For my internship I don't need to speak spanish, english or even need to talk, I just use sign language and write in english the whole day. So I talk to people maybe 10 times a week. I've noticed my english is declining fast (I've only been in Chile for 4 months).

I found myself talking slower and almost in the same accent/way of speaking as the Polish/turkish people at work so they'd understand me. Otherwise I found I might be talking to fast and I would almost dumb myself down for them. I started saying 'brush the floor' and brush instead of broom.

I speak English 70-80% of the day on any given day. I think in English most of the time and I've started to 'forget' my native language and turn of phrases. And I still live in my home country! It's a rather stupid situation to be in.
