He sounds like a very normal man to me. Most men will not start talking about you to friends/family until they are more certain, comfortable, farther along....that's often the sign of a GOOD man being careful, realist and private. I would not think too much on that. I've experienced that several times in the past.
Don't push him too hard, don't demand anything. Be upbeat, positive, be strong for him and he will follow your lead. Make sure your chats are fun, make him feel special, but show him you are independent, strong and have a life outside of your relationship. Men don't like to feel like you are their only reason to exist. That is a HUGE turn off for 99.9% of males. I learned THAT the hard way as well. :-)
When he comes online, be happy to see him, ask about his day, and don't push any issues. I've found that the more I back off, yet remain positive...my BF draws closer to me...even during what is now VERY tough times for us. Chin up. If it was mean to be, it will happen. Don't force it.
