About to tell my mom that I'll move...

and I am soooo nervous. I already told my brothers about it and they said go for it. But I really don't know how my mom will react...
Any last minute tips or advice?

I just broke the news to mom a couple days ago and I think it's slowly sinking in. It's helping to let her know I'll still, very much, be a part of her life. It's normal for adult children to end up moving far away to live their own lives. She'll probably be upset at first, but you won't really be leaving her.

My parents have known this from the beginning, but I think it has just recently hit them that I am moving within the month. Just be confident and explain all the steps so they know what to expect in the upcoming months!

okay...i finally told her...she wasn't really pleased but didn't really say something against it either. Yet I knew that she was really sad but didn't really show it.
Well, but honestly I know that this is the right decision for me and I (or we) wouldn't be able to continue a LDR for a couple more years..
And I mean...it is not the end of the world...I'll just live far away but skype and facebook are a good way to keep in touch...
Now that my brothers and my mother know about it we're one step closer to finally close the distance...yay

Maybe it will help your mother knowing when you will be able to come for a visit. Children naturally move away but she might worry that your visits will be infrequent.

On a K1 visa, visits won't be possible or very hard to schedule for at least 2 years or until you get the greencard which could take even longer. You should mention that.

Im glad for you that your mum took it well, my parents knew from the beginning that I am going to move to America and my sister, and my nieces. Everyone will miss me but they are supportive and understanding, like Snow said I reckon it won't sink in until the weeks before I leave.

My understanding of the k1 visa is that when you apply for adjustment of status after marriage will take about 3 months to get your greencard( conditional permanent resident) Once you have your greencard you can travel out of the USA any time and it will be simple to be able to get back in, also you can't travel out of America once you arrive, as the K1 visa is only for one entry and so wait until you have your greencard. When you have conditional permanent resident status you will have to file forms 90 days before your 2 year anniversary to get the greencard changed to unconditional permanent resident, they would interview you to make sure the marriage is genuine. Then after you get the unconditional status, you can apply for citizenship by naturalisation. I know within the 2 years before getting the greencard changed to unconditional they will want to know that you stayed in America over that time period more than you travelled overseas. As I think their reasoning is it will show them you are commited to your relationship with your SO, which makes sense. When I get my K1 visa soon and go to America to marry my fiance and we live together in Minnesota, we plan to visit my family in England at least once a year, depends what we can afford and we will have lots of things to see in America, so over the first two years we can go on trips and hoildays in other states and our own state, minnesota is massive, it is definitely bigger than the whole of the UK lol.

I'm really sorry to burst your bubble, but 3 months is really on the very low end of the scale. It depends on the location of your office, but it is going to take more than 3 months before you get your greencard. It takes between 73 and 554 days before you get an interview date and from that interview date to the actual green card it takes you another 58 to 369 days depending on where your office is.

You only have to lift conditions if you have been married for less than 2 years before you have received your green card. If you have been married for more than 2, then you get a green card that is valid for 10 years.

You can apply for advanced parole, but you need good reasons for it: You may apply for Advance Parole if you have an adjustment of emergent personal or bona fide business reasons. Due to the processing required to issue an AP it is advisable to apply far in advance of when you plan to travel. As of late 2007 AP's were taking up to 100 days to be issued. In an emergency a person may make an [2]InfoPass Appointment at a local USCIS office and request an AP expedite. Proof of the emergency must be provided, along with a copy of the AOS NOA receipt.

We just started the whole process and it'll be a long journey. I really hope that we don't have to wait that long...
As long as it's 5-8 months it'll be okay lol...
