I did the K1 visa back in 2014.
I followed the steps to a T on visajourney.com - however, we are both never married, have no kids and he was able to sponsor me.

First Met: 03/21/2013 - 03/30/2013
Second Visit: 06/06/2013 - 08/21/2013 ~ Proposal: 07/06/2013 ♥
Third Visit: 10/09/2013 - 01/08/2013
Closed the distance: 11/20/2014 ♥
Married: 1/24/2015
Became Resident: 9/14/2015 -

I'm going through it right now with my fiance. I mailed the I-129F package back at the beginning of September last year. Then lots of waiting until January 25th when I got a letter that said my petition was approved and they were sending it to the National Visa Center in New Hampshire. Earlier this month I received an email from the NVC saying they were forwarding it to the U.S consulate in Frankfurt. My fiance and I are still waiting to hear something from Frankfurt and will email them soon if we don't receive anything by the end of this week.
It's a long process, lots of waiting.

We sent our Visa out in March 2014, then in October I received my visa in my passport and I moved in November!
I do think I was processed really quickly though!
