Hello! My name is Andrea but everyone calls me Andy. I wanted to introduce myself since I'm new to the forum.

I also wanted to share my LDR story. I wasn't sure if I should post it in the LGBT section or just in the general one, but here I am!

Short story: me and my GF met online at the begining of 2013. I'm from Venezuela, and she's from Canada. We felt a conection really fast and eventually decided to try and have a relationship (one of the best decisions I've made). It took us 3 years, but we finally met in person in July. I'm back in my country now but we're working on getting me there and closing the distance!

If you want to know more details about my story/ our meeting in person, I'd love to share!! I would also love to hear about other people going through this and their experience/advice!

I mostly wanted to conect with people going through the same thing as me!

I love to read all the stories in here too ;3 I'll share mine then!

Where to start? We met in a little silly website. No long before that I had finally come to terms with my sexuality, so it was all really new. She talked to me and started to tease me, it caught my atention. The next day I saw a message from her and got really happy. I wasn't looking for love at that moment... but we started chatting in that website, it became dayly and turned into Skype chatting. I was too scared to voice chat since english is not my main language and I also didn't want my family to hear me, but eventually we ended up calling each other. We talked all night long. I felt a very strong conection, it was all so new to me. I never knew I could develop feelings for someone just by being online.

One day we accepted having feelings for each other, but I didn't know how to deal with that. In my mind there was no way of meeting in person (I'm from Venezuela, I've never left my country before at that point, and it is too dangerous here for her to come visit). She was scared too because she had a previous bad experience with a LDR. She wanted to try anyways and I was still scared... then she said that maybe it was better if we go our separate ways. It was then that I realised I wanted her in my life.

I'll skip ahead to the night I asked her to be my GF, after a long time of her pretty much convincing me not to be scared. This was 3 months after we met, on September, 2013.

We've talked almost every day since. a few hours a day. It's great, it feels like we're close even when we're not. We tried to arrange visits a few times but it was all really complicated. Also, my familly didn't really know about her. But on July, 2016 we finally made it! I visited her and stayed with her for a month and a half. It was amazing, we felt so comfortable and natural around each other and I conected with all her family. Now it's harder to be apart, harder than before, but we are so happy that we made it and now all the doubts and insecurities are gone. Right now the next step is me moving with her! (fingers crossed) since I finally finished the university. It's been a hard journey and it will continue to be, but I don't regret anything, and at this point I can't imagine my life without her (cliche but truth)

This is my first post, ironically replying and not sharing my own story. Your relationship sounds so beautiful -- and similar to mine.

My BF lives in Venezuela and I live in the USA. We met through an app, and a few days later in person last year while he was visiting the USA on a tourist visa. We became boyfriends before he left. It was his idea to have a LDR; I was initially opposed to it due to prior experiences. But I fell in love with him so much that I ultimately agreed. LDRs are so hard ... 🙁

It's interesting to hear from someone else in my country going through the same. LDRs are scary and hard, but they are so worth it if you're with the right person. I wish you two the best!
