SO Just recently passed the ASVAB, but I don't really know what to do from here.

My SO and I met each other around graduation. During our relationship, he told me that he's wanted to join the marines for repair and mechanics since high school, and was just waiting for the summer of 2013. I agreed and everything, because he spoke with his recruiter who said that after boot camp, he would be stationed somewhere in the U.S. But just recently, he re-thought enlisting and was going to move New York, but after we talked about it he realize it was just a moment of confusion and that he really does want to join, but he doesn't know if he still wants to do repair.

He just passed his ASVAB and is going in for his physical next week. I'm really excited for him, but I'm just not too sure what to expect from here. I googled it, but no one really knows.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I'm in the Air Force so I can offer some insight. After he passes his physical, he will meet with liaison for the Marines and select a job. He will be sworn into the delayed entry program (DEP) and await a ship date for boot camp. I know the Marines have a few different locations for boot camp and it will be so many weeks long. Once he graduates, you should be able to visit (if you can that is) and then he will go onto some kind of school to learn his job. (the Air Force calls it "technical school" and the Navy calls it "A-school") Whatever his job is will determine how long his schooling is; different jobs have different school lengths. For the AF, they have to be a minimum of 9 weeks and the longest is a little more than 2 years.

I'm sure you can look on the Marines website to get more information on each step. He could get stationed anywhere around the globe so be prepared for that. I hope this helped a little

Thank you so much! This really helped a lot! I went on the website before, but I only became more confused. There were so many acronyms haha. I'm prepared for him being stationed anywhere, but I'm really just holding my breath to see what happens after his physical.

You're welcome! I'm glad I could help lol, there are SO many acronyms in the military! It's worse than an eye chart! but you get used to it. My parents learned a lot of them and they even use them when talking to me now. If you have any more questions, let me know!

Hey there! If he's going in the Marines, he'll be stationed in Paris Island in Hawaii or this place in California; the only Marine RT's there are. 'Boot Camp' for the Marines is ten weeks long, perhaps longer. I know it's longer than any of the other branches and then after Boot Camp he'll go to AIT(Advanced Individual Training, which can last from two weeks to two - three months) and that also depends on his MOS.(Which job he'll pick)

I'm going through the same problems right now. I'm joining the Army very soon and my boyfriend is supportive, but he honestly doesn't want me to. I'm just hoping that I'll get stationed in Fort Bragg, SC. I'm trying to ensure that by picking BAT(Basic Airborne Training) which is only taught in South Carolina.

I would look up different military jobs that have bases that specialize in that specific area so perhaps he can choose where he gets stationed, somewhat. You can put down a wishlist that you'd like to go to, but you honestly have no choice. They rarely even take it into consideration. The only time he'll start to get a choice of where he gets stationed is after he starts gaining rank.. Like legit high rank.

Hope this helps a little bit! I don't know a whole lot about the Marines, only the Army.
We've got each other and that's a lot
For love - we'll give it a shot
