Time off school to see your SO?

I have taken time off school twice before, I didn't have any problems getting the time off as I was seeing family at the same time, plus it was in the middle of the term, in the middle of exams, and at the end of term, after exams.
However, I am planning on applying for holiday for 3 days when I will only have been back at school for 3 weeks and I'm really worried that I'm going to be turned down as I am just starting at a new school.
Have any of you guys taken time off school to see your SO? Were you ever told you couldn't? Any advice on persuading my mentor to let me have the time off if it gets rejected?

Nope! My family goes on a cruise every year for about a week which interferes with school (usually November) but I just say that we have to and see family. It sounds more serious than "oh, we're going to explore the Caribbean for a week". When my SO was here, I also would take half days and leave after my main courses so we got more time together. If anyone asks just say it's already booked and you have to go, it's a personal family matter. Don't volunteer any information that it's for fun or brag that you're skipping school to hang with your SO.

I wasn't planning on telling them I was going to do a whole bunch of fun stuff with my SO, as then they'll definitely say no! I was thinking of saying that it's to see family, which wouldn't be a complete lie as I will be seeing one family member who is picking me up from the airport And I hadn't thought about saying that it was already booked and that it's important if they say no - but I will definitely use this if they do say no (which I hope they won't!).
      Thanks for the help

I've taken time off from school at the end of the term (last year) in the middle of exams and stuff, for about 2 weeks to go see my boyfriend, and the only thing I needed to tell them was that I was going on a holiday to Argentina, and that was enough for them to let me go I don't know how strict your schools are though, over here it's pretty easy as long as you've got reasonably good grades and can handle school I'm planning on taking another 2 weeks off at the end of this term for the same reason, so let's keep our fingers crossed!

I got the time off they're quite good about that here too - Alle1770 I see that you're I'm sweden too I was mostly worried as it is so close to the beginning of term and I'm just starting a gymnasium. I told them that I was going to England to visit my family, as that was the easiest way. And it's not a complete lie, as I will be seeing my grandad and possible my dad as well as my SO So its all good, flights are all booked and I leave one week today!!

You have to ask permission to take time off school? I think that's bizzare! I've taken time off to see my SO before, a week at the end of term once, and then three weeks in the middle of term another time (it would have been less but I couldn't return to school for a week because I'd traveled to Canada during the swine flu epidemic.) Didn't have an issue. I took work with me the second time so I didn't fall too far behind.
Happily married to the little Canadian boy I never thought I'd meet in person

Alle1770 - Yeah, it worked the last time I took some time off to see my SO Yep, I got it and I replied! Thanks
Zephii - Yes, we do. It sucks a bit, but I can understand why they do it. I don't usually have a problem getting time off from school, but I was only worried as it is so close to the beginning of the year and as I've just started in a new school, so I was worried that they might have some other rules or maybe be more strict than my old school I usually get a planning sheet at the beginning of the term, so I can catch up while I'm away, which will be good
