My wedding was small- 16 people total (including us, not including the two drunks and their dog that randomly showed up ). It was also really, really cheap. In fact, the only thing we paid for were our outfits and our plane tickets. Because we refused gifts, our guests (mostly family) paid for almost everything else for us- the cabin where we "honeymooned", our ski lift tickets, dinner after the ceremony (everyone paid for themselves, someone paid for us), the cake (which was a surprise), etc. It was lovely. I do regret not getting a photographer. People who have yet to marry- spend the money on a photographer- it's worth it!

We are planning on having another party here in Costa Rica with my SO's family. We'll invite around 30-35 people, and plan to get it done for under $2500. Including, this time, A PHOTOGRAPHER!!!

We'll be getting married here in the UK, as I'll be moving to the US ultimately. I imagine something small and simple - the village church where my parents live, a marquee on the village playing field, I'll probably make my own wedding cake, wild flowers from the hedges around the village, no particular colour scheme, and just the people that mean something to us: immediate family and close friends. Wine from Aldi! Not sure about food, but probably some kind of spit roast. I really want the ceilidh band we had for my brother's and sister's weddings. No idea about a dress, but I don't see the need for it to be expensive or designer, I just want to look fabulous and be able to dance in it!

Biggest expense will probably be bringing my SO's friends over from the US, as I doubt many of them will be able to afford the airfare without some help.

I definitely want a beach wedding. I told the SO and he likes the idea :-)
Since it is most likely that I will be the one relocating, the wedding will be in Colombia. It's more than fair, no? I'm considering holding the wedding at a beach resort I stayed in last year and work with them on the organization, decoration, food and so on. It really is beautiful and almost perfect there.

I can totally see my SO wearing a kaki or white linen suit and me a simple but beautiful wedding dress, also a hair accessory.
I'd love it to be closer to sunset because I find it absolutely romantic, a perfect background for the pictures and also to avoid the heat.. which is not my best friend. . The music can be provided by the nature itself :-) who doesn't love the sound of waves? Ok, maybe a bit of life acoustic music too.

I do get a little bit #@%%$^%$ when I start thinking about the wedding and the people I want to invite. I know I don't want a big wedding, but my family from both sides is quite big and I also have lots of close friends I know will be hurt if I don't invite them. I find this part a bit stressing, but I honestly don't want more than 50 people there. We'll see.

I wanted a small wedding. Family wants otherwise and as both of our families are very large and extended, we are looking at about 175-200 guests.
We are also on a very limited budget so we are cutting costs wherever we can without it being super lame and boring.
I'm trying to DIY as much as possible, and I bought my dress brand new off craigslist and my bridesmaid dresses from the thrift store. (3 matching color bridesmaid dresses for $36 total!)
We are using my church and their hall for our wedding and reception, so that will cut costs, and our food will be around $1,000, but it will be good food so I'm happy with that. (That's including our cake.)

Anyways, my reception is going to be more rustic and laid back, but our ceremony is more formal as my dress is more formal and as he wants to wear a tux.

he sorry for the confusion, I was just too lazy to put 10,000 in a currency converter Since I had that money, I constantly made sure I had "House deposit" in the back of my head. "If I go with the least expensive option here, more money for the house deposit. I don't really need bunting... more money for the house deposit" haha it really kept my spending in line!

and I also echo lucybelle- a decent photographer is soooooo worth the budget. I am glad I went with someone a bit more expensive, because we got our engagement pictures done for cheap... lets just say if the same guy did our wedding pics I probably would have been in tears, and not in a good way! Also if you can by lucky enough to find someone who gives you the digital files in the package- it saves you a small fortune in prints and photo albums!

I'm a little late to this thread but I'm going to post anyway

Our wedding is in six months. We are inviting about 90 guests. We're having a traditional Catholic ceremony in the church I grew up in. The reception will be in the clubhouse at my parents' lake where I grew up. We're having a country theme. Our colors are navy, green, brown, and white (which sounds weird but it looks really cool!).

Regarding budget, my parents are paying for the ceremony and reception. They gave us a budget of $6000, which is a pretty small amount for New Jersey but still very generous. We're very grateful! My mom and I love to get great deals and coupon so we're doing very well with it. My SO and I will be paying for his attire, the rings, Catholic premarital counseling, and the honeymoon. We have about $2.5k allotted for that.

              Became a couple: March 17th, 2010
Started our college long distance relationship: August 2011
Surprise engagement in Disneyworld! : March 22nd, 2013
Closed the distance: May 2nd, 2014
Became his wife and started our happily ever after!: May 17th, 2014

My SO and I aren't engaged yet, but we have discussed this subject to an extent. We are thinking about trying to have two small weddings: one in Sweden with more of the Swedish traditions and one in the US with more of our traditions. I would prefer to have more of a combination of traditions and one wedding. However, most of my family is afraid to fly, so one wedding is probably out of the question. Sooo, I'm hoping to have a small wedding in each country with just our friends and family. I definitely know that I want to get officially married on our anniversary of December 26, and I want it to be a Christmas themed wedding. Needless to say, we're going to have to save a huge sum of money be able to have both weddings even if they are small, but I don't want either family to feel left out. Although, I know wherever we have the official wedding will hurt the other side that isn't able to attend. We have many years to figure this out according to him, but I secretly hope we get engaged somewhat soon.

Absolutely! It's on May 17th, 2014 When is yours?

It was expensive!! Because of our schedules we did the one day retreat instead of the couple weeks of classes. We were nervous about what to expect but actually had a good time. Have you done PreCana yet?

We're still waiting on our results from the FOCCUS test. I have to set up a meeting with the priest as soon as I get back for Christmas break.

Our parish doesn't do the multiple weeks retreat, its only offered on like a Friday night and then ends Sunday morning with mass I think? We haven't done it yet cuz he's been soooo busy with school...but the semester is almost over, so we'll get to it soon.

We did the FOCCUS questionaire as well...wasn't hard. I'm pretty sure we scheduled a meeting with our priest before we even did the test jaja! I was nervous at first, but I think our priest was a little surprised/relieved to see our results matched up so well being so young lol. We scored in like, the high 80's on each section, and 83 in one section, and a 95 on another. Everyone is scared we're too young so we're not ready but we think otherwise :P.

And June 21! Maybe I'm counting the months wrong. I'm also disregarding what's left of Novermber xD. I really wanted to get married on our five year anniversary, May 2nd, but that's the day before he graduates...and neither of us wanna have to wait until May of 2015 to get married lol.

Edit: how weird that we got engaged in such a similar way! The only difference was my SO took me to the polynesian hotel because they apparently have a little beach I had no idea about, where you can watch wishes without the crowd. Then we took a ferry back into the park. I felt like I was in a dream!

We're not engaged yet either, but we would have a traditional Ghanaian wedding in his village.
So basically, the whole village would be there. The more the merrier And there would be a lot of singing and traditional dancing !
I've been to 2 Ghanaian weddings and they were just great fun and the biggest parties. What makes me a bit sad is that my parents wouldn't be able to be there because my mum can't really travel (especially to hot countries) because of her health condition. One of my best friends would have to represent my family.
So I'd probably end up having another small wedding with my family in Germany at some point.

Oh interesting! Our parish itself doesn't offer PreCana at all because they have like two weddings a year so we had to travel to another county to do it. I think you'll really enjoy it!

Wow those are great results!!! Congratulations! I'm anxious to get ours. We took the test when I was in New Jersey over the summer and then my priest had to mail them to get scored. By the time they got scored I was already in Florida. Hopefully we will have similar results! I think we did well on it.

Haha I think you are but that's okay!! I only know because ours is officially 6 months today. We actually had a similar idea as you - we wanted to get married on our 4 year anniversary which would have been March 17th but I still would have been in school so we settled for May 17th. How did you come up with the June date?

Oh I didn't know that!! That sounds beautiful Haha it must be the proposal of choice for us youngins

Yea my parish does it online, so the results got emailed to my priest and he saw them right away. It was nice, that's why we just scheduled the meeting before actually starting the test.

I got the June date because my SO is still deciding whether or not to take a class in the summer. If he chooses to, he'll still walk in May, but won't get his degree till he's done with his classes. June 21 was the only weekend in between the first term in the summer and the second. So it goes....first half of summer classes end that Friday, then its our wedding, then there's a week break before the second summer term begins...so in case he has to take classes the second half or whatever, we chose that weekend in between. Hopefully though, he won't have to take any classes jaja.
