For those of you who are married and have both a wedding and an engagement ring. I read somewhere that you're supposed to put your wedding band first, so its closer to your heart and then put your engagement after it. Is this accurate and do you do it like that? Also, if that's the case, did you take your engagement ring off before the ceremony?

I didn't know you were supposed to switch it! I kept my engagement ring on and he slid the wedding band on top of it, so I left it like that :P

I only have a wedding band, but my parents have both rings and they switched their engagement ring to the other hand when they got married.I made love to him only twice, she thought and looked at the man laying asleep beside her. And yet still it is as if we have been together forever, as if he has always known my life, my soul, my body, my light, my pain

I wore my engagement ring on my right hand for the ceremony, and put it back on my left after we did the recessional. However, a year and a half later, I now wear three rings, so.... my engagement ring is in the middle.

I don't know anything about tradition. I didn't have an engagement ring when we got married (because I had lost it) so he just put the wedding band on on my bare finger. He did buy me a "post-engagement" ring later on but I very rarely wear it. I just stick to my wedding band most of the time. When I happen to lose weight my wedding ring becomes a bit loose so I put the engagement ring on top of it as it's a bit tighter.

In general, here in Austria we wear the engagement ring on the left hand and the wedding ring on the right, so I'll be having one ring on each hand!!!
(I though will be wearing 2 rings on my right hand because we got a nice one for me to go with our plain wedding bands)

I had a Chevron diamond wedding band and that went first and then the engagement ring fit into it on top.To those who dream, nothing is ever far away.

Our celebrant told me to slip the engagement ring off just before the ceremony so the wedding band could go on first. I totally forgot so during the ceremony I discreetly removed it just before we exchanged rings lol.
My wedding band is made specifically to match the engagement ring, so it has to be placed before the engagement ring for it to sit properly.Met Online : July 2013

When my mom got married (I was 10 when she got married) she temporarily moved her engagement ring over to her right hand for the ceremony, and then moved it back to her left hand afterwards. The order on her finger was then wedding ring first, then engagement ring. She said she liked it that way because it was "traditional". Now she just wears her wedding ring because her engagement ring doesn't really fit anymore.

I've never heard of either of those rings being on anything other than the left hand. Cool to read about the different traditions! We both have sets of ring that go together. So it looks like we'll take out engagement rings off for the ceremony and put them back on after. Over our wedding bands.
