Aaron and I ended the distance in January when I moved to be with him in NC. He proposed to me several times--with candy hearts, on the beach, and once it just kind of slipped out. He went ring shopping several times, but a) he had never shopped for "serious jewelry" before b) 'a' made him nervous. Having mercy on the poor guy, I thought to give him an idea of a style I liked, so I pulled up a local jewelry store's website, and fell head-over-freakin'-heels for my example.
We called the store, and the had it in stock, so we went that very day to see it and when I loved it as much in person as on the site, he purchased it. It had to be resized, and he refused to tell me when it would be ready so that he could have some semblance of mystery for his official proposal...

Then on March 29, 2010 we were walking down Topsail beach, holding hands, and collecting shells. For the first time in years, I felt the sand underneath my barefeet, and when we came to a dry circle of sand untouched by the waves, he said, “Kaitlin, I love you. I will never hurt you, and will always protect you. Everyday of my life I will do all I can to make you happy…Will you marry me?”
He then pulled out the ring box, and I opened it to find…my claddagh ring. He had taken it from me on the drive.
“Are you kidding me?” I asked and playfully punched him in the arm, and laughed harder than I had in a while.
He then held out my beautiful engagement ring, and I said “Yes! Of course, yes!” And he put it on my finger.
We planned an amazing wedding, and everything was falling into place for August 7th. However, his bratty little sister and his older brother's mentally unstable and jealous girlfriend tried to ruin everything. We cancelled the wedding, and planned an elopement for the same day. We ordered cupcakes in orange and pink (would have been our wedding colors), I had a custom wedding band made for him, we bought new outfits, and wrote our own vows. One of my best friends offered to come down to photograph the Detention-Center-to-Beach elopement and she and her husband were our witnesses.
We exchange legal vows at the magistrate's office, and then went to Topsail Island where we had a personal ceremony with just my friend and her husband present. It was simply perfect, and completely stress-free
Here's a link to an album of favorite photos from our elopement.
