Buying the dress online?

Does anyone here have experience with buying a wedding dress online? There are so many tempting wholesalers... I don't need a designer gown... But I'm scared of the quality I'll recieve.

I dont have experiences in that but when i was little my mum ordered some clothes for me from magazines.
I wouldnt do it because it looks always different on paper than in real. The colour, the size, the lenght...

When you go to a Wedding-shop its a lot easier and you can see your favourite dress from all sides and you dont have to send it back if it doesnt fit you!

Personally, I wouldn't. Have you looked for wholesale or discount stores in your area? Have you tried David's Bridal (do they have those in Canada?) My Mom and I made an appointment at David's Bridal kind of as a joke because we thought they'd be such crappy quality. And we were pleasantly surprised. I tried on some beautiful dresses there and actually ended up buying my dress there!

For online, I'd be not just worried about fit, but quality and how something looks on you. Before we went dress shopping, I had an idea of what style I wanted and when I tried it on I realized that I didn't even really like it on me!

A while back when I was looking for prom dresses- due to a cock-up with one dress I ordered on ebay, I ended up ordering 2 of the same dress, from 2 different sellers. and believe me they were made of 2 completely different materials, different beading, everything- the SAME dress! thankfully one was good quality and I wore that but the other is festering in my wardrobe, I think I will give it to goodwill, someone might be able to use the fabric for a Halloween costume or something. Saying that, I have found the perfect dress on there for my marriage ceremony (not my wedding ), and as the seller has NO negative reviews for the past 6 years, I think I'm going to get it when I have money again

What I would say is, maybe go to some dress shops, pinpoint the one you want, then look online- the designer of the dress will have a list of online sellers it uses- you can email and enquire to these websites, and buy from whichever has the cheapest deal.

I didn't buy my dress online - I knew a seamstress locally and had her make my old one. The advice I received when considering buying online is make sure you know people who actually purchased from there, ask them to show photos or the actual dress, and ask them how the experience was. Some places have horrible reputations because they're bad businesses, and brides have no problem mouthing off about it.

I don't really like buying anything online without trying it out. If you can, I recommend finding the dress you like online, then going to a store to see it up close and try it on. If it's cheaper, buy online!

Don't buy it on eBay!!!! I worked for eBay in the Fraud department, and there are sooo many fraud auctions for wedding dresses...a lot of Chinese knock off's and they are NOTHING like you see in the pictures. Just a heads up!

Thanks girls I was scared of this response, but some things are too good to be true. I'm going dress shopping on saturday to look at some, so I will know what styles suit me... but unless I find something very cheap well... best not to worry about that yet, right?

The ones I was looking at were ebay (but the used ones, not the chines knock-offs) and the "wholesalers" which are very obviously knock-offs lol. I'm not so worried about quality. I mean, it has to stay intact for only 6 or so hours. But I'd want it to look like the picture

used ones wouldn't be bad...just be sure to ask alot of questions about stains and such, and ask for a lot of pictures and compare them.

I wouldn't mind trying out a dress I've ordered online BUT I would want the option of returning it if it doesn't fit... which sadly isn't necessarily possible if you buy it second-handed and pay for it before it's shipped. There are places that sell used wedding dresses too though and of course there's always the chance of renting it.

My sister is a tailor and I've made her promise to do my wedding dress when the time comes - it's just a matter of designing it which I suck at plus I can't decide on a certain style even though I've gone through dresses for the past 2 years

I got my prom dress from ebay. Made in China based off a $400 dress that I loved. She made it for my measurements so I only had to get one minor alteration and it looked a lot like the pictures. I was happy. But for a wedding dress I don't know if I would do that and trying on dresses is definitely a good idea since you never know what they'll look like on. I tried dresses in a similar style before ordering my prom dress.

my cousin bought one from craigslist but she had to go meet the person and see the items.. best go with some friends to look at those things from craigslist though..but i wouldnt try online for something as important as a website.. but the things i get out of nordstrom is not bad.. its the real deal.... but it is more expensive.
