Hello all!
I wanted to let you all know that my SO, Cheryl, and I got engaged Monday. We were LDR from August 2008 until May 2011 because I was away at graduate school. So for those of you who are still LDR and have found the one -- it is totally worth it and someday you will be together!
We had discussed this topic before, and I knew she was going to say yes. She had asked me to make the proposal a surprise and romantic. So here's how it went down...
I made reservations at a nice restaurant we liked where we had had some of our earlier dates. I also booked a hotel room so we could have as much fun as we wanted. I told her a few days ahead of time that we had plans on Monday afternoon/evening. On Monday morning while she was out running errands I hid several clues around the house that lead to her suitcase and finally the ring. That afternoon when she got back, I sent her on her scavenger hunt. The clues were related to things we had done and places we had been. I surprised her in more ways than one, because she didn't expect the hotel, and she had thought I'd propose at the restaurant instead of at home.
Needless to say, she said yes, and we had a wonderful night celebrating. We're both on top of the world right now. Although, looking at theknot.com last night, I was a bit overwhelmed by everything involved in planning the wedding. No rush. We'd like a long engagement, and we have plenty of time.
