Can anyone help me find a worldwide dongle/internet stick?

My boyfriend is going off to sea in a few days for 3-4 months, we are both in England
Last time he was on a ship around Europe so could use a dongle, but it was awful and kept cutting out on him.
This time it looks like his ship will be in Australia, Japan etc etc.
Can anyone help me find a dongle/internet thingy that will allow him to email me possibly even skype when he is at sea/stuck in a dock in a foreign country?

They should all work world wide. I know mine runs on t mobile and when I go to Canada or Europe it just uses whatever line t mobile works in conjunction with in that part of the world. BUT ill have a look for you.
