I actually play the piano for my SO as well, during calls. I do not know the required equipment, I just put my phone on my knees and play. She never complained about the sound. Piano sound actually is more or less well, it depends on the instrument and (more importantly) on your equipment. The sound was really bad when I recorded myself in the past with some mp3 player, but with Android phones (Samsung Galaxy Grand Plus and now Asus ZenFone Max, about my own experience), the sound quality is more clear.
